Word of Mouth is the best thing to happen to my neighborhood since I moved here in 2004! I am a breakfast hound, meaning that I would wager that I have had the 2 egg special with meat at every breakfast-serving establishment in town (this is my standard baseline setting breakfast), and Word of Mouth is by far in the top ranked of Salem AND BEYOND. Originally from South Carolina, I introduced my Southern mother to the Word, and their biscuits even passed her mysterious test of satisfaction. The red potato homefries are a mark of excellent quality, and Steve holds the honor of inspiring me to try corned beef hash for the first time and actually enjoying it! I have also come for lunch with the family, and the pulled pork also passed the Southern mother test. The Word of Salem has won my glowing approval! I've lived within six blocks of their location since 2004, and I had braced myself to be disappointed --> but I could not be more thrilled with the food AND the atmosphere - Becky and Steve have really invested in transforming the house into an amazingly sophisticated and comfortable space suitable for any level of privacy and any sized group. I enjoy heading in for early breakfast and sitting at the comfy padded stools at the little open bar. Our historic NE Salem neighborhood is nestled in between downtown and i-5, so it's relatively close to the Mission Street or Market Street freeway exits for all you folks passing by Salem who don't want to venture all the way into downtown with its parking issues.

I can't wait until the Word extends its hours to include dinner!
