“Gorgeous..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

This was absolutely a beautiful drive.. When it is called Crooked River Scenic Drive, there is a reason for it, not only because it is in Crook County! Up and down, around sharp turns, but definitely worth the drive. Plenty of place to pull off and see Mother Nature at her best!

“Incredibly scenic! I drive it regularly.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Whether you start in Prineville or Alfalfa, there are many places to stop to enjoy the views.
Remember to take photos!
Think there are 12 campgrounds.

Drove through here (again) last Saturday and rekindled my desire to have a convertible: there is so much to see above and below!

“High cliffs and winding road”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

The Crooked River Scenic Drive is a breathtaking view through the canyon of the river. The river and road wind past ranches, trees and looming cliffs. Be sure to stop and hike Chimney Rock as the view from on top are the best you will see. It is a short easy hike to the top. There are many campgrounds along the river and overlooks as well. Camping is free and the fishing is good I'm told. You can also put a canoe into the river and float it. You will be alone as this area is not at all crowded.

“Chimney Rock Trail & Campground”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

Took the family out for an afternoon hike to get some fresh air and a little exercise. Just past mile marker 16 outside of town on the Crooked River Hwy 27, you will find the trail head on the left and the campgroung on the right. Parking is on either side of the campground, or across the street at the trailhead. 2.6 miles will take you round trip to Chimney Rock and back. Along the way are many areas to stop and enjoy the vast open views, and great places for photo ops. This trail is graduated uphill, with a few steep inclines to climb. 3/4 to your destination is a bench that is a great place to sit and enjoy the Crooked River. Once you reach Chimney Rock, you can sit and relax and enjoy the views. If you are going in summer, ensure you take plenty of water. Though this is a moderate 2.6 round-trip trek, it can get quite hot towards the top in the heat of the dry summers. At the bottom of the hill, there is a bathroom on the right side of the campground. Also, if you are still up for a little adventure, there is a nice little hike along the river that starts to the left of the pier. A great little trek to cool off and relax after the long hike up to the rock; plus a nice change of scenery. As far as difficulty, this trail is listed as moderate. Our 4 year old was able to hike up and back all by himself without being carried. There was some whining at the end about being tired, but he made it all by himself. So, if a 4 year old can do it, than the average person can complete the hike without any problems. Enjoy, and don't forget to take your camera.

“Chimney Rock”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

The drive down to the Chimney Rock trail head is a pretty one. The Crooked River does carve out some wonderful canyons and this is no exception. There a lot of recreation sites to choose from along the river. Across from the trail head to Chimney Rock is a nice fishing pier that anyone can use. The trail to Chimney Rock is an easy to moderate 1.3 miles that ends at a nice rock formation and views of the Crooked River. The trail is mainly desert with the occasional views of the river and the mountains if they are out. The trail makes for a nice warmup for similar trails in the region. Nice quiet place to get away.
