As a Starwood Gold Preferred member, I stayed in an upgraded room. The room was extremely spacious with a desk and 2 chairs. The spacious bathroom had separate shower and tub and all the usual Heavanly toiletries. The complimentary business center is very convenient for printing maps and researching downtown attractions. The gym is well-equipped for a hotel (3 treadmills, 1 elliptical trainer, 1 stationary bicycle). The hotel itself is located in an extremely convenient location relative to Nordstrom's, Macy's as well as performing arts venues. The light bulb in the desk lamp was burned out, and maintenance arrived to change it less than 5 minutes after I called.

We just got back from a two night stay at this hotel and it was great. The staff was friendly when we checked in and checked out and generally greeted us with a smile and a hello. We had a corner room with two large windows and the beds were AWESOME. The best hotel bed I've ever slept in. There were also free chocolates and sparkling water from in evening in the lobby. The business center consisted of two internet-connected computers and a printer and the workout room was decently sized with newer-looking equipment with TV on the machine screens.

As others have mentioned, parking is a pain. I really didn't really want to pay $25 to park valet overnight. However, up and over a block is the Smart Park which run and/or sanctioned by the city which is much better (especially on weekends).

Given what we paid for the room, there really wasn't anything else I could ask for. I can see how someone paying the full rate wants a little extra attention, but we don't need that.

  • Disliked — Expensive valet-only parking!

We just spent 3 nights at the Westin and I can highly recommend this hotel. Just 2 blocks from the light rail line, the trip from the airport was a breeze. We were allowed early check in, had a very comfortable room with the best bed I have ever had in a hotel. The staff was pleasant and helpful, and the business center very convenient and well equipped. The location for walking the downtown area was unbeatable.

We stayed at the Westin over the weekend as a get away. We live in Portland. When I initially called and booked the hotel I called the hotel "800" number and asked if this was what used to be the Benson hotel. They called the hotel directly and the Westin said yes they used to be the Benson. We dropped our car off to check into the Benson and to our surprise the Benson was not the Westin we checked into. So we drove to the Westin and told them this and no one seemed too concerned. The gal at the front desk even told us they used to be the Westin Benson. Another worker at the hotel told us that was not true it was never the Westin Benson. It was always just the Westin.

The room was fine but housekeeping didn't seem to do a good job. When it comes to conserving laundry, water and towels most hotels will change your hand towels and leave your bath towels for another day's use unless you put them on the floor. This hotel changed our bath towels but left the hand towels. They also didn't change our dirty, used glasses. We had to call for new ones and I did feel a bit guilty not tipping the person who brought the new glasses but why should I pay for something that should have been done right in the first place? Also, the room next door, for two mornings in a row, had an alarm go off at 6:00 a.m. each day. Not fun.

I told the front desk about the mixup about the wrong hotel, the dirty glasses and alarm. No one offered us any compensation and we are not the type to make a big stink. I think some kind of customer service would have made it a nicer stay.

Other than that the hotel was fine.

A Disconnect between the front desk and online booking.

The hotel overall was great. However they have a major discouncet between thier online booking and their front desk. I booked online due to the time I was left on hold when I wanted to book throught the hotel. I had asked earlier that if I needed to leave early (cut 3 days to 2) would there be a problem. I was assured there would not. "We never do that at the Westin".

However, when I did have to cut my stay from 3 days to 2, (before I even checked in), I was told I was going to be charged the full 3 days, beacuse I booked on line. The front desk said there was nothing they could do, but someone would call me, from the online division. No one ever did and I paid for all three nights. Pretty low brow treatment, for a class hotel.

For the past 40 years, I have been staying at The Bensen Hotel when I portland. I will probably stay there in the future.
