Like most of the Westin properties in the Pacific Northwest, this hotel has some issues.

The rooms are nicely sized, handsomely appointed, and very clean. But that's about it. The "overnight" room service has only cold entrees and takes forever, there are no fabulous amentities, and the whole property lacks the pizzazz that the Westin reputation (and Westin room rates) imply.

Everyone tries their best, but the result is strangely disappointing. But then again, Portland is not a hotel town. You won't do much better anywhere else.

We've always enjoyed Westin properties, but the Portland hotel is simply not up to the standard of a Westin. There's the understaffing, for example. Both days it took us half an hour to get our car. Getting our bags to our room? After another half hour I went to the lobby to request them, but was brushed off by the bellman. The room service was very quck and quite friendly but the food was ice-cold. Our television didn't work and there were bathroom amenities for only one person. The concierge never called back. The room bed was comfortable and the bathroom spacious, but the room itself was on the shabby side. Lesson learned: never again!

I stayed at the Westin when I placed a bid for a 4 star hotel in Downtown Portland($75 per night). It's in the middle of a great shopping area since it is only one block away from Macy's and Nordstrom. I heard about the high parking fees but I didn't know that the only parking option was $25 per night for 24 hours valet parking. It's a nice touch but I thought I could self park here for $15? They do charge you for in-room Internet access but you can always get by on going to the 3rd floor business center to use their 2 computers and printer. They do offer Starbucks coffee in the lobby but if you want something else, then you would need to walk 2.5 blocks to Starbucks or half a block to two different cafes in the area. The hotel staff was very helpful in helping you get directions and finding recommended restaurants. The room is very cozy as a downtown hotel usually is. It had a boutique sort of feel.

Book the Westin if you don't have a car and you want a lot of convenient shopping nearby. Otherwise, stay elsewhere where the parking isn't as much.

I am a Starwood Platinum member which means I stay at a lot of Sheraton and Westin properties. This particular one consistently delivers sloppy service and when you complain about an issue it goes unresolved.
We arrived at 9pm at night and the front desk clerk uses the WT to call housekeeping to ask if the room is ready. Well the room was suppose to be ready at 4pm so why at 9pm are they asking I wondered?
Well we get to the room and find an open bottle of water next to a people magazine which is not standard fare in the room. the bathroom reeks of cheap perfume and there is hair on the sink as well as the toliet lid and a stain on the white comforter. I spoke to the agent at the front desk and inquired if staff had been using the room because of the call to see if the room was ready so late at night and the smell of perfume. I also asked in a very nice way if the manager could call me. Well no message or call from the manager ever came. As well the next morning there was some baby powder on the carpet that was still there when we returned later that day. No cleaning and the bedspread was not changed either.
The rooms are nice and location of the hotel is a good one. But even as a platinum member with Starwood I will not stay here again and instead stay at the Marriott or Hilton which are within a block of this hotel.

  • Liked — location and size of room
  • Disliked — staff are clueless to problems and follow thru skills are non-existent.

i have stayed a lot on hotel i've seen the worse so i learned how to choose and what to do... here's my little tips...

1. if you have the money spend it well
2. if your in the budget for the hotel look for cheaper hotel not close to the city
3. Don't book your hotel in Any website it's a ripped off
4. travel agent or priceline, hotwire, or other sites give you a bad deal....
5. make sure book it to the hotel or hotel websites or their 800 reservation
6. confirm your reservation and ask for the person who you just spoke too...
7. request anything you can think of but remember it's not guranteed...
8.if all of this doesnt fit your critiria read number 9
9. DOn't stay to any hotel if your cheap person and complain too much get a life and stay home..
