“Boutique-like hotel with the Westin name”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

We stayed here for a a few nights in July and were pleased with the small, intimate feeling of the hotel. It was well-decorated in all areas and the service was great. We ate a delicious breakfast every morning in the hotel and felt we were remembered by the staff. The location is right in the heart of the city.

We pride ourselves on providing a Westin Experience that is unique to Portland. I am equally pleased to see that the team took great care of you and was reflective of the our focus on creating unique experiences for our guests. There are many lodging choices in Portland and we are grateful that you chose The Westin Portland. Thank you for taking the time to offer some insight to not only your stay, but our amazing location in the city.

Right from the valet parking right at the Hotel doorstep, the experience was extraordinary. I had a few experiences to illustrate. The valet was friendly and took care of my luggage and the car. So right from the get go I had nothing to worry about as I arrived. The check in was smooth and was upgraded to a corner suite (few perks of being a Platinum member). The suite was spacious with great views of the city and an amazing bathroom with the Westin experience shower that is to die for:)
An ordinary experience was about to be turned around when I found that my toilet bowl was nearly clogged the next morning, stuff happens. The service express desk sent someone to attend and clear the toilet and have the bathroom cleaned all within the next 3 minutes, mind you this was at 730 am! I decided to give the breakfast a try at the Daily grill restaurant. Its not until I came down, did I notice the little touches to the lobby, the cozy reading area, the ornate blown glass ceiling lamps, an eclectic but perfectly complementary sit down lobby, the awesome bar that fits right in...I could go on. In a nutshell it is a boutique hotel with its own unique identity. It just happens to also be a Westin with its heavenly bed, the shower and the awesome toiletries. The breakfast was an added boost with really attentive service, decent priced menus and small twists to some old favorites. The interiors of the Daily grill was done with a lot of Hollywood influence and the whole place was spic and span inclusive of the mirrors and pictures on the wall. The devil was in the detail and it showed.

Lastly the front desk staff also doubles up with recommendations on food, things to do and anything else you would like to know about the area. Portland as such is a compact city, so getting lost is the best way to know it. I also used their running map to do the 3 and the 5 mile run on the banks of Willamette river. In case you are wondering, yes the MAX service to the airport is a block away and trains run every 15 minutes during peak hour with ride taking about 35 mins. So its a great city to visit without having to rent a car or hail a cab and getting around is easy with the $5 all day pass (for use in MAX, streetcar and buses). Also the location is kitty corner from the food carts that are open at least till 11 pm and tons of restaurants around. Popular attractions like Pioneer square, Powell bookstore and the river are a couple of mins by walk so it does not get any more central than this. In short it was a very memorable stay that I would cherish and would not hesitate to go back in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: If you can, try to upgrade yourself to a corner suite. The views are awesome with full height glass...

WOW, what an amazing review. It sounds as though you took in all that Portland has to offer while staying with The Westin Portland. There are many choices in Portland for lodging and we are thrilled that chose The Westin Portland. Our goal is to have our guests feel a sense of renewal and rejuvenation, and to leave feeling better than when they arrived. It sounds from you review that we achieved that goal. It was great as well to hear that you enjoyed The Heavenly Bed and our found our new Heavenly Showers to be refreshing. You are most correct in that our Westin is has a boutique nature to its design and decor, but definitely has the bones of Westin in its amenities and services. We would be delighted to welcome you back should your travels bring you back to the Portland area. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

Stayed here for 1 night first weekend of July. Being a Starwood member, I naturally gravitate towards booking this company's chain of hotels. Couldn't decide between this one or The Nines but happy with the Westin Portland in the end.
LOCATION: It was difficult to find at first as the front of the hotel is discrete looking (no massive pull in lane or large waving flags etc) which goes well with the rest of the downtown feel. The hotel is in the heart of the downtown area- close to all the shopping malls and within walking distance to lots of tourist spots and restaurants. Best part about the location was the proximity to the food trucks!!! Also, a 'city' Target should be open at the end of the month if you need to buy snacks and beverages.
HOTEL: Booked a standard room on points and was upgraded to the Junior suite on one of top floors. That was a very nice bonus! The room was large with a sitting area and also a large bathroom (seperate shower and soaker tub). Nice touch with the fine teas by Steven Smith, a Portland teamaker (other Westin's usually stock with the standard tazo teas).
PARKING: as others have mentioned, valet parking is pricey. And yes, there is a open parking lot up the street. We opted for the valet parking since we were only staying one night and did not have luggage with wheels. The only concern I have about the cheaper open lot parking was that it appeared you had to leave a key with them also (felt less secure about doing this).

These days winning the hearts and minds of travellers is in the little things. this hotel offers a great location with all the right services...my phone kept dying in my room, they need to get a program to update their cordless phones. Mine was replaced with another phone that died...wasnt until the 3rd time I got it resolved. Mgmt did send up a nice perk of some wine and a note...

Feedback is a gift, and I appreciate yours. The devil is in the details, and you should expect to have a functioning phone in your room. We are working now to replace our existing cordless phones with a newer more reliable model. Insights such as this are what gives us the ability to improve our offerings and to evolve and grow. I do apologize for the inconvenience that this may have caused, and know that we are working diligently to get through the replacement process. Thank you for choosing The Westin Portland.

We had a corner room on the top floor and enjoyed great views of the city. The bathroom was large with an oversized shower. The room was fairly small but was well organized and comfortable. The bell staff was great. We enjoyed their restaurant recommendations and tips for getting around. We did not experience noise from other rooms; our room was very quiet. When we were ready to check out, we called to have our car brought up. When we got downstairs, the desk clerk had already printed my receipt and handed it to me as I exited the elevator, and invited me to take some coffee to go and a newspaper. What a nice, easy way to end our stay.

It’s great to hear that you were able to take advantage of our location and take in all that Portland has to offer. Equally good to hear that the hotel offered you a sense of renewal and rejuvenation after a big day out and about the city. Our oversized bathrooms are one of our best features and with the Heavenly Shower it’s a great way to refresh. I hope that we have the opportunity to welcome you back to Rose City soon.

Love Westin's and stay at Starwood when I can. This Westin must've been the smallest one I've even seen. Don't let that discourage you because they also had the best service, rooms and hotel character I've seen in this brand. This is more like a small boutique hotel with lots of personality; large lavishly styled rooms and bubbly personnel waiting to pleasantly accommodate your every need. If I ever came back to Portalnd, there's no doubt I would stay here again. Great location too. Walking distance to restaurants, shops and the airport train. Bed was super, duper comfy and sheets are high threadcount. Shower and bathroom were just gorgeous and rain showerhead was greatly appreciated. Great job Westin hotel and staff!

A few work colleagues and I booked a stay at the Westin Portland for a Saturday evening via SPG.

Location: excellent. Within walking distance of the better restaurants downtown Portland has to offer, as well as nightlife; the quirky, fun Saturday market was also a short stroll away.

The hotel was lovely, though common areas were much 'cozier' than most other Westins. Standard (always great) White Tea products in baths that were exceptional -our rooms had both tubs and showers, separated by enormous vanities.

The walls, however, are extraordinarily thin. We received a 'noise complaint' for a room of four speaking (not shouting) about the evening's plans, which confused/irritated us; the following morning, we could hear children in the room over watching Saturday morning cartoons (loudly, clearly), which woke us all up.

Attentive staff, though they were less than receptive to feedback regarding the noise. Appreciated the late checkout and all-day valet service.

Will most likely not stay here again when we return due to noise.

Room Tip: If possible, avoid adjoining rooms.
