My wife and I stayed here for a night as we were traveling through PDX. The rooms are small and painfully hip but you can see how this hotel was once a crash pad for Meth-heads (just go around the corner and ask them about it). We loved that it was so close to Doug Fir restaurant and lounge with their great food and bands. The problem is this is the kind of hotel you would have gone to in high school for drinking parties, which is exactly what happened to us. The room next door was full of thirty-somethings reliving their high school experience by drinking and partying until 4am. They'd come outside to smoke and scream at one another by standing right in front of our window. Very irritating. On the comment card when we left I wrote about the bad experience. Usually, this would elicit some response from management but I got nothing.

I'm as much of a hipster as the next guy but even for me this whole experience was freakin' frustrating. Which is too bad because if things had been handled differently I would have gladly returned. As it is...I'll stay at the Ace Hotel next time.

We've stayed here for the Portland Tango Fest for past 3 years. The place is really perfect. Its clean, cozy, & convenient. The adjoining restaurant and outdoor patio with open fire pit offer great food and ambiance. Didn't have any problems with noise. Staff was very helpful.

this hotel is so cool.
The mural on the wall are amazing. they have crazy soap that has a hole in the middle of it (cause really when the bar of soap gets to a certain point we just toss it.). i love this hotel! parking is a little crazy but i always always stay here when im in portland. i think its funny how they provide a free condom and ear plugs in the room. so thoughtfull. haha love this hotel!

We booked the Jupiter hotel on the recommendation of a friend, but it was way cooler than we expected. The doors are chalkboards, which is very fun - and we totally loved leaving each other funny notes! One of the walls was a mural photograph of a forest. The staff was very young & hip. They even left a condom on the nigtstand for us! When I asked the young lady at the front desk for advice on sights to see with limited time, not only did she make recommendations, but she told me which buses to take and where to catch them. Above & beyond! There's a bar/ night spot downstairs (Doug Fir Lounge), but unfortunately we didn't have time to check it out. Our room wasn't on the same side as the bar, so we didn't have any noise problems, but I don't know if that's the case with the other rooms. The bathroom was clean with an old style toilet bowl in mint green (very cute!). The rooms and amenities are quite modern (digital alarm clock, hair dryer, really smooth writing pen - which i may have kept!) Parking was an extra $10 for a day, but 24 hour unlimited in & out.

This was our second stay at the Jupiter and we love it. It's not for everyone though, and if you're not up for a room in a hotel connected to a music venue with a "no noise after 1AM rule", or if the younger set (twenty-somethings) with piercings, long hair, tattoos, and attitudes frighten you, seek refuge elsewhere. If you're ok with weirdos, and are looking for a well-decorated, hip place to stay and you like an EXCELLENT burger, then this is the joint for you. They share a parking lot with the Doug Fir Lounge which in addition to being a music venue showcasing local talent, is an amazing restaurant. Public transportation is a quick walk across the street and downtown Portland is just across the bridge (a ten minute drive). Their rooms are newly redecorated and many include wall murals. They all include speakers to which you can connect your portable audio device, flat panel televisions with cable, and a condom on the night stand (just in case). The rooms are not overly spacious considering the price, but the location and quirkiness more than make up for it. Also, if you happen to be enjoying a show at the Doug Fir and find you've had a few too many, you can get a room for the night after midnight at a greatly reduced rate.
