Their hotel rooms are very cold no heat. And the room was nothing special for the price. I feel I paid way to much, stayed at a lot nicer places for the price. But I will say the front desk and library were very clean and nice. Don't know about the elevator don't feel safe.

The Mark Spencer is a former apt building converted to a hotel. The rooms and hallways are drab in decor and the furnishing and appliances are all tired, aged. It needs some serious updating to be a real contender. i would have paid an additional 30-50/night for a bit fresher feeling and look. Oh! And there is an old air return vent in the bathroom that looks like it hasn't been cleaned in about 30 years.

The upsides: it is in a great part of downtown for nightlife, is anything-friendly (gay, straight in-between), moderately priced, some of the best staff -friendly, helpful, accommodating. And has an EXCELLENT diner across the street, The Roxy Cafe - you gotta eat at The Roxy no matter where you stay.

this was the second time I've stayed at the Mark Spencer hotel, and for the room rate, the facilities and service is just great. As other reviewers have noted, the hotel's not new, but as it's clean and well maintained that doesn't really matter. My room had a full sized sink, fridge, cooker, cutlery and crockery, as well as a separate living area. Other bonuses are the free wifi and the breakfast, which was very generous. I also like the afternoon tea, which is every afternoon. Very civilised!

The staff are all extremely polite and helpful.

Only two slight negatives: firstly, there's no tea or coffee provided in the room. however, it's fine to take some teabags or coffee up to your room. Secondly, it was very very noisy outside at night from a club I think, to the extent that I had to wear earplugs to get any sleep. I'd recommend asking for a room that doesn't face the street.

Overall, though, this is an amazing hotel in a great location that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone, and will definitely be staying at again.

This was my fourth stay at the Mark Spencer during the last 5 years and I would just like to say that they are always hospitable and accomodating. It is not a new hotel, but it is kept clean and well staffed. It is within walking distance of many downtown establishments and I love the new bed linens - very nice. I plan on staying next year during my annual visit to Portland.
