“Wow - what an experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

My wife and I just spent four days at RiverPlace Hotel and I have to say it may have been the best hotel hospitality experience we have ever encountered. From the moment I handed the keys to the valet until we left, we were treated as if we were their only guests. Received restaurant and golf tips from the valets, genuine smiles from everyone. Especially need to mention our waitress Charly. She was engaging and very knowledgeable. One dish at lunch we particularly liked & asked her about ingredients. Took our e-mail address and said she would talk to chef. Didn't think much more about it, but our last night we received a package at our door. She had put together all ingredients in separate packages and written recipe. We were blown away. Think my wife started crying. I also have to say that we ate at several of the known restaurants in Portland, but felt our meals at hotel were some of the best. I'm not sure if that has ever happened before. Thank you Charly and the whole team - you were the highlight of our trip!!

We stayed in the RiverPlace for a few days and it was wonderful. Everyone was very attentive and friendly and helpful. We would highly recommend the pool for kids nearby and cycling along the river with the Hotel's bikes.

Lots to do, see and places to eat within short walking distance. Even more with a car such as Pinot Noir Central in the Williamette Valley and out towards Mount Hood along the Columbia Gorge.

A very happy stay al round.

Location says it all a fabulous hotel overlooking the Marina and a submarine docking area. Tranquil bird songs wake you in the morning as dies the sound if the dragon boat racers practicing their art on the river.

River Place is like the city of Portland itself: open, spacious, friendly, and green.
My husband and I recently spent 3 days there and it was perfect for us.

Our king riverview was spacious, comfortable, and on the top floor with a splendid view. The windows open, which we especially like. The breakfasts were very healthy and tasty. We did not eat dinner at the hotel. The staff was super-friendly and casual, yet very professional. I thought the price of the room was appropriate, but the parking ($31 a day) on the pricey side. We especially liked the 2nd floor courtyard where the very nice wine hour was held (some good Oregon wines). The hotel is well-located on the very edge of the downtown area and the staff was very helpful with directions. I liked having my choice of newspaper at my door each morning, complimentary.

Only one complaint and that is with the housekeeping. Although we were there 3 nights, we were only there 2 days. On the 2nd day, we arrived back at the hotel at 4:30 tired from sightseeing and wanting to rest a bit . . . only to find that our room was not made up yet. We had to call downstairs and someone came to remedy the situation, but did a less than stellar job (no bath mat, no dirty glasses removed and replaced, no liner for ice bucket - looked like only the bed was made). Left a little bit of a bad taste when everything else was so remarkably good.

Room Tip: Definitely river facing; try for upper floor

The service here is outstanding! The location is great - right on the river, close to most thing but very relaxing and peaceful. The rooms are attractive and the beds comfortable. There are many nice little amenities here - complimentary newspaper, free wi-fi (if you are a Kimpton member), complimentary wine hour but what really stands out is the service. Every single person who worked there was unusually pleasant. After we checked out my 12 year old son realized he left his wallet in the safe. I sent an email but I didn't really expect them to find it. After we got home we received his wallet, with all of the cash still in it, and a nice note. It was incredible!

Glad to hear we were able to find your sons wallet. I believe it was locked up in the guestroom safe so it sounds like he had the right idea, just need to remember to take it with him upon departing!! See you soon,

We stayed in Portland for one night and wanted to stay right on the river. We chose RiverPlace hotel for this reason, and we pleased with the location. The property is adjacent to the river front public park, right on the river, and part of a complex of small shops and restaurants. We enjoyed walking through the area and found it vibrant, clean and safe. After dinner at a near by wine bar, we had a nightcap on the hotel porch downstairs on a pair of cozy rocking chairs, and watched night fall over the river.

We found the hotel service to be outstanding, and the staff very helpful . The Valet service decent ($31/day), the lobby offered cold drinks and fruit, but the WiFi service was spotty in most areas.

Room itself is small, but well appointed, with lots of little extras you can pay for ; yoga mats, robes, and umbrellas. Joked with my husband to check for a price tag on the pillows before going to bed. Booked a riverfront suite- found it very expensive, if consider the size-, with a nice view of the marina and river. Very nice room, prettily decorated , if a little small - even for two people. Ordered breakfast from room service, and found it hot and tasty. We never had supper at the restaurant downstairs - Three Degrees- but heard from some locals that it is very good.

Overall, great staff and a great location made this a pleasant stay, but if looking to stay with a family- or two claustrophobic people- there are more affordable hotels nearby with larger rooms.

Room Tip: Take 3 minutes and sign up for Kimpton's loyalty card; score a discount on an expensive room.Riv...

We stayed three nights in a two room suite overlooking the river. Attentive, friendly service.
Comfortable bed. Nicely done bathroom. New York Times and Wall Street Journal in the lobby or can be left at your door in the morning if you wish. Complimentary wine in the lobby or outside on the terrace, 5-6PM. Only disappointment was desk clerk who tried to discourage us from ordering a cab to the airport for an early morning departure. He suggested a limo instead because he said cabs may not be there at such an early hour even when ordered the night before. We ordered a cab and it was there 15 minutes before the appointed time of 4:45 AM.

Room Tip: Request a river view.

Thanks for the feedback and sorry that the info from the front desk was a bit of a disappointment. It is true that cabs can be a little unpredictable especially in Portland where there is a need for more cabs. I am very glad to hear you had no problem with your arranged cab ride. I will share your feedback with our Guest Service team.
