“This is NOT a Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2007

This is NOT a Hotel. While the rooms are updated, the rest of the property is in disarray. It is not a self contained 1 building hotel. There are several buildings that you either walk or drive to, then enter an unlocked open access hallway to access your room. Basically, anyone can walk right up and knock on your room door without ever passing hotel staff. The parking areas are inadequate and poorly lighted. Security is non-existent and the area leaves you with a feeling that you are completely un-safe staying there. I feel misled by the star rating and the photos on their website.
Service was not in-line with ANY other 3 star hotel I have ever stayed in. Front desk clerks were unkempt and abrasive. My room was not cleaned every day. When it was cleaned there was always something forgotten (towels etc.) I also had to wait to both check in and check out as there was only 1 clerk at the front desk at any given time.
Again, I will state this IS NOT A HOTEL! Hotels are expected to be self contained in 1 building with secure inner hallways to access guest rooms. Although the rooms at this facility face an inner hallway, that hallway is accessed from an open stairwell and doors that have NO locking mechanism (not even a door handle). I would describe this as a Motel 6 with granite countertops!
Better choices in the PDX area are The Embassy Suites and the Hilton Garden inn. I have stayed at both of these hotels before and they make the Red Lion look like a motel that should be rented by the hour!

I got this hotel for $48.00 on priceline and wasn't sure what to expect. The outside of the hotel is old and not well maintained. There are 4 separate 2 story buildings none of which are locked.
The room however was very nice. The 2 queen beds had new comfortable mattresses and bedding. Right inside the door was a nice mirror with shelf that held the coffee pot, coffee and tea.
The bathroom was kind of small but okay. The soap, shampoo and lotion were Bath and Body Works products. The room also had a TV, dresser, small refrigerator and microwave.
The the price the room couldn't be beat.
The hotel had a bar attached to it and parking was a bit of a problem. I had to circle the lot twice before I found an empty place.

  • Liked — Quality of the bedding and amenities
  • Disliked — Exterior of buidling, and lack of parking

Front desk: Fleabag Motel -- Room: worth 3-star rating

Good bet for a business traveler, but not convenient to tour Portland or a traveler who needs a barrier-free stay.

We wanted a cheap, convenient one-night stay by the airport. We got that, but the "face" at the front desk that was sorely lacking in proper communication skills. A pleasant demeanor and smile were not in her repertoire, and her response to simple questions was off the mark.

My friend and I booked rooms there separately on Hotwire and a phone call earlier in the week guaranteed us we could have rooms adjacent to each other. This clerk was very dry and unapologetic in relaying that one room between us was the "best she could do." It was make clear to us that Hotwire customers did not rate much effort in her view. We could only interpret her attitude as a hotel policy???? I hope that's wrong.

At the end of a 4.5-week international trip with heavy suitcases, we were not thrilled to find that we were on the second floor and no elevators are on the property--at least according to the clerk. Please be aware of this! A family with many small children and a luggage trolley packed to the gills in front of us had to haul all of their things up the steps. When I asked how we would manage, the clerk called a porter to help us. He, in contrast, was very cheerful and professional. In fact, he ran off before we could tip him for his hard work.

The rooms were a total shock after the treatment we received in Reception! They were clearly renovated recently with an eye toward a much classier hotel. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom very clean and well-appointed. A small table with a coffee/tea service was provided, as well as a fridge. The outside of the buildings were clearly not brought up to this standard yet. So, hard to anticipate what you find in the room from the initial impression.

We took advantage of the shuttle to the airport and the driver was very courteous and professional. I hope future travelers do not have to suffer an encounter with the clerk we did, as it soured the experience for us.

Needed a place to stay in SE Portland and chose this based on the Trip Advisor reviews and a good internet rate.

Once you get to 82nd Ave, just follow the signs to the airport. Before you get to the airport, you'll see the hotel on the left. Just make a u-turn at the light.

Our room was attrative and quiet with a small microwave and refrigerator. They furnish nice toiletries from Bath & Body.

No elevator, so plan to carry your luggage up if you're not on the first floor.

  • Liked — Comfortable room and easy access to freeways.
  • Disliked — No elevator

This hotel is misleading in the fact that is not one self-contained building, like most other mid-range hotels. Instead it is four different, two-story apartment-style buildings. The rooms on the first floor are at ground level and have windows that do not open. Access to both floors is through non-secured doors (so what's the point of interior corridors?).

The rooms themselves were very nice and seemed to have been recently renovated. The location is great for the airport (and easy to get to despite other reviews, just turn left at the stoplight). However, if your goal is to explore Portland, get a hotel in downtown because Portland streets are confusing and traffic is awful!

Arriving at midnight, I was greeted courteously by the shuttle driver and the midnight check-in. The room was very clean and comfortable, great mattress and three types of pillows, soft, medium and hard ... the bath had all the amenities and was also very clean and the shower head relaxing. A great value for a clean, well kept and sweet smelling non-smoking room.

If you're bidding on a 3-star hotel in the Portland Airport area through Priceline or similar services, watch out, for you're likely to be stuck here. Priceline rates this hotel as three stars; it merits 1.5-2. The property is old and is being refurbished on the cheap.

The location is extremely inconvenient, as access to the airport or downtown is impeded by convoluted streets in this industrial district. Someone who does not know Portland well would get lost easily. If you want to get a map via your computer, good luck--the wireless network is so weak that the signal was unusable, though we tried several locations.

During our four-day stay in late May 2007, the newly installed air conditioners did not cool effectively, working for five-ten minutes before turning off; we spent sweltering nights, though daytime high temps were only in the mid-70s/low 80s. We even changed rooms, but it appears that the a/c is set to "cool" the room to the mid-high 80s to save power costs. The windows are single-pane, so there is lots of aircraft noise; the first-floor windows do not open, so there's no way to get cool outside air (since the a/c has no fan-only setting).

The desk clerks were unresponsive, saying that they knew there was a problem with the new machines; the hotel "engineer" was unable to remedy it. When we asked to meet with the manager, the clerks joked that he was rarely present. We never saw him.

Maid service was poor: towels were stained and dirty, on several occasions, glasses were not emptied; the ice bucket was never emptied, and there was no plastic liner. The room had an odd musty odor; this hotel takes pets, and though ours was labeled a non-smoking, no-pets room, who knows? FYI, bring your own toilet paper--this hotel uses 30 grit sheets.

Though this hotel was about $70 through Priceline, it's not worth staying at, regardless of price. There are over 100 reviews of this property on the Priceline site, and many echo my comments.
