“Stick to the classics”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2012 via mobile

I love Trebol. It's hard to find authentic Oaxacan cuisine in Portland and Chef Hill does a very good job. The offer more margaritas and tequilas than you probably have ever seen. You have to start with the chips and guacamole. Then my advice is to order carefully. Their standards are off the charts but when they get creative, things can be hit or miss. My wife's chulaquiles last night were flat. I had the tuna and though the sauce was great, the fish was a little fishy. Pay attention when the server tells you about the day's specials - the tamales ate the best you can find.

“Kind of slipping . . .”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

We've been three times for dinner. Service each time got a little slower and less attentive -- always cheerful and friendly, but just slower. Restaurant seemed emptier each time. Food was blander each time. This last time, some ingredients of dishes listed on the menu weren't even there.

“Glad we tried it - we'll be back!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2012

We hadn't been to Trebol before, but because of a Living Social coupon, we decided to try it. We went on a Thursday evening; wasn't very crowded, which we prefer. As the evening progressed, several other tables were filled and it became quite noisey then. Couldn't imagine how noisy it would be if the place was filled. We started off with the marinated spot shrimp and when it was served, the first thing that came to both of our minds was "I hope this isn't one of those foo-foo-shee-shee places where you leave hungry." because for $9, we got 3 medium-sized shrimp. They were absolutely fantastic (the sauce was so tasty), but seriously....3? When dinner came, however, we were very happy to see that the portions were substantial. The slow-braised chicken dish was good but the slow-braised pork shoulder dish is the one we'd come back for - and recommend. For dessert, we had the sopapillas, again, very happy that there were 4 very large pieces and sooo yummy! All of the wait staff were super friendly and helpful. Other than the appetizer we ordered, the pricing on our entrees and dessert were as expected. Glad we gave this restaurant a try - we'll be back for sure!

“The best of everything”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2011

Great food, organic, sustainable consciousness, beautiful, quiet comfortable atmosphere, excellent friendly service. Trebol has reached that rare combination of lovely surroundings and creative delicious local organic sustainable while being neither uber hipster, uber chic, uber snotty, like it is actually not fit for a Portlandia spoof since it's only uber enjoyable. Oh, I forgot to mention, $100 for four of us, with 4 entrees, three drinks, two appetizers and two desserts, what a steal.

“Mixed experience, some good some bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2011

Kinda got the run around when we arrived, like the hostess asn't sure where to seat us, but finally put us outside. After a long wait the waitress finally showed, and took the drink order and also the food order. Food arrived before the drinks and for the most part was good. Drinks finally arrived and a couple were not what we ordered but we kept them as we didn't know when we would get the replacements. Desert also took forever to arrive. All in all, the service was so poor and the food good but over priced that we won't rush to go back there again.
