We have had incredible service from Jake's over the years, and have booked one of their party rooms twice for big family events. The staff are very attentive and considerate, and the seafood is of the highest quality.
However, they're not keeping up with the times. It's a constant effort to stay ahead of the problems in our nation's food supply. In recent years many quality restaurants have committed to serving wild-caught salmon as opposed to farmed salmon raised in unhealthful conditions, as well as beef and other meats that are raised without growth hormones and antibiotics.
The sad reality today is that If you eat "mainstream" USDA meats you are exposing yourself to estrogen-mimicking endocrine disruptors and contributing to the extremely serious problem of antibiotic-resistant bugs like MRSA. We try very hard to eat only "clean" meat, and an increasing number of restaurants (including moderately priced ones like Burgerville, Chipotle and McMenamins) are able to accomodate us.
Unfortunately Jake's, maybe because of their more traditional customer base, has not stepped up to the plate. All too often their planked salmon is of the farmed variety, and their steaks are USDA generic, not the Oregon Country, Painted Hills, or other responsibly raised beef that you will find in many other restaurants. As a result we don't go very often anymore.
