“Happy Hour Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2013

Our son attends Portland State University and so we have been traveling to Portland more frequently (live in Eastern Washington). Happy hour takes place twice daily at Jake's and it boasts the most flavorful menu for an unbelievably low price. While we enjoy the assortment of wines and other drinks, we come for the happy hour menu and the regular menu also. One of the best items on the regular menu is the bacon-wrapped, stuffed prawns. They are the best wrapped prawns I've ever tasted! They are about 18.00, so not cheap, but worth every penny. The atmosphere is lively and fun and the service impeccable.

“Great Ambiance, Service and Seafood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2013

Having a couple of locals with us and recommending Jakes made for a great night. An excellent wine list that paired well with perfectly seasoned calamari and crab/prawn cakes as appetizers. Our group had rockfish (killer good), a nightly sole special, cedar plank salmon and I had a very palate pleasing dish of Dungeness crab, mushrooms and artichoke in a sherry wine and garlic sauce.
Overall, this dining experience was outstanding. I would recommend Jakes but ask them to share a little history about Jakes 100 years ago.

“Great Lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2013

We ate here for lunch during the week. We sat in the bar next to the window. I had the rockfish which was cooked perfectly and the sides were quite good as well - especially the garlic mashed potatoes. My husband had the trout which I tasted and was quite tasty as well. The bread and butter was fabulous which may sound strange but their house bread with the butter spread on it was delectable and a great way to start our meal. The portions were quite large for lunch and since we were walking around and not heading to our hotel anytime soon, it was a waste of food. The service was ok - our server seemed unhappy to wait on our table. The other tables seemed to get her full and joyful attention but she seemed to turn sour when she approached our table. It was a strange experience and had I not seen her behave differently to the other patrons, I would have thought nothing of it. I would return for the food but ask for a different server next time.

“Huge Let Down”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2013

Went for Thanksgiving dinner, which we have done before (pre-Landry's). It was crowded and we were seated about 10 minutes after our reservation time (despite checking in 5 minutes before). The oysters and bread were decent (with the exception of the butter being frozen solid), the rest of the food not very good. Cold clam chowder, sinewy turkey and my fish and chips was simply dreadful, chips ice cold. We were there towards the close and, despite the crowd thinning out in our section, our plates sat well after we finished and the service was less than attentive. All in all a shame, this used to be a Thanksgiving tradition for us; we won't be back. Perhaps the acquisition of the chain by another mega chain (Landry's) has impacted quality.
