“A Portland Classic still delivers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2013

Portland is such a great food town that it's hard for locals to keep up with all the fabulous dining choices. A friend in town on business gave me the perfect excuse to try the VQ, which has been delighting patrons since the 1970s. We didn't have a reservation, but got a table in the bar, where you can order off the dining room or bar menus. Food was good, service was good, drinks were very good and the VQ is going into my regular rotation of downtown dining favorites. Lots of fresh, local choices, though in Portland that's pretty standard! The atmosphere is cozy, both in the dining room and in the bar, with a wonderful patio option for the warmer months.

“Liked everything about it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2013

We went here for Sunday brunch in October. We arrived without reservations and the place was mobbed because it was Breast Cancer walk day in the city. They seated us in no time in a lovely little nook. Service was very attentive and arrived within an appropriate time frame especially given the crowd. Food very good. I don't remember what I had but my husband had the smoked trout scramble which sounds disgusting to me but he just raved about it. The décor is so welcoming - bit of the old, bit of the new. Well maintained. There is an outside patio but it was a light drizzle the day we were there so it was not being used. I saw several large parties being accommodated in the back rooms. Don't know what the parking situation is - we walked from our hotel. Would definitely recommend.

“Fantastic brunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

We were walking through downtown and came upon VQ at brunch time on a Sunday. The dining room was full (they do make reservations!) so we sat at the bar. The atmosphere was fantastic. Very relaxed! Their beers on tap are all local and they offer 1/2 glass if you want to try a few. The brunch menu is incredible!!

They also have a late night bar menu and they offer local wines - we plan on trying both soon!

“Delicious food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

We had a reservation and were immediately seated in a cozy room. The service was a bit slow. It took some time for the girl to take our drink order. The service was very helpful and friendly just a slow pace. The time in between courses seemed just a little too long. It was very busy, so I don't know if the kitchen was behind or if the waitress was not putting the order in timely. There were two occasions during our meal that we had no drink and had to wait for the waitress to bring another. Overall we were very pleased with the food and dining experience. We were in no hurry so it was absolutely fine that it took a while between courses. The chocolate soufflé was very good as well.

“Cool and cramped...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013 via mobile

Heard a lot about this place..tried it for a work dinner. Bar scene was hoping on a Thursday night. Made a reservation no problem but we decided to stay in the bar since it appeared too quiet in the dining area. Drinks were solid although the dude with the big mustache always seemed put out and never cracked a smile. Food was very good. I has the pork tenderloin. Overall solid experience with a good but very small bar scene.
