“Very quirky”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

The menu is very confusing until explained but the food is good and the staff is very helpful. This is a very casual family type of place (though not cheap); not somewhere to go for a romantic dinner.

“get the bird”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

This is a family style restruant. They give two sheets one has the main dish which you pick the amount from small or large. Only seats about 30 people and the place is always packet.
Out of the meal iwould suggest the bird it was in a curry sauce the side we got was peaches and tomatoes which sounds weird but wounderful.desert to get is the devil food cake

“Guess I expected more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

We've read solid reviews about Navarre and its newer version, Luce. So when friends came to town, we put our old standby restaurants aside to try something new.

The tapas menu is extensive and it can be kind of difficult to know what's really good. However the two waitresses that looked after us were very helpful in pointing out the restaurant's most popular items.

Eventually we agreed on about 8-10 different plates for our table. The "bird" plate (chicken) was braised very nicely but without much seasoning. The crab used in the crab cakes did not seem fresh, at least to me. Everyone commented on the unusual flavor of the crab cakes. In any case, we left some crab cakes behind uneaten.

While the staff was welcoming and helpufl, our impressions were, "Well we tried it and it was fine". But I doubt that any of us will go back. Pity.

“great crab cakes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2012

We read about this restaurant in The Oregonian and decided to check it out. We liked the small plates and the service was excellent. The server was very knowledgeable and guided us to through the menu. The decor was decidedly low-brow and the emphasis clearly was on the food. My wife especially liked the crab cakes declaring them the best she has ever had.

“Unique in a city of many fine restaurants”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

We recently returned to Navarre with some friends who asked for a recommendation. Navarre is a pioneer in both the "locavore" and small plates movements. Seasonal vegetable dishes are always a good choice. Crab cakes and lamb are regulars on the menu and always great. When we first started going there the service was somewhat slow as it was usually understaffed, but that is no longer the case. Staff are very helpful in navigating the many choices and making recommendations both for food and wine. A unique Portland experience that I highly recommend.
