My wife and I stumbled across Saucebox while we were sight-seeing around Portland. We went back to the hotel to check out the reviews before making a dinner reservation. Based on some of the recent reviews we almost didn't go. We would have been really disappointed if we hadn't gone for dinner. It was excellent.
I agree w/ other posters. We would not want to have eaten dinner in the front. It is more of a bar/lounge area (perfect for happy hours, etc). We ate in the nicer restaurant area in the back. It was lively and busy, but not loud or distracting. We had a very comfortable spot at a table for 2 and the atmosphere was perfect for dinner.
The best part was the food. We started w/ the salted prawns and crispy brussel sprouts. The sprouts were excellent. For dinner we had the salmon and the korean baby back ribs. My wife enjoyed her salmon and I absolutely devoured my ribs. They were the most delicious, fall-off-the-bone, tender ribs I've ever eaten. Thanks so much to our server for the recommendation. If/when we ever get back to Portland, we would definitely go back to Saucebox. Hopefully they still have the ribs on the menu!
