We were the only customers there mid afternoon on a Saturday, but I expect that this is a big lunch place considering it's location downtown. While we were there, there were several orders phoned in for pickup - usually a good sign.
We had Tom Kha soup with chicken, Thai fried rice and Pumpkin curry. I had ordered Tom Yum but a slight mix up gave me Tom Kha, but it wasn't a big deal to me.
The Soup had a lot of domestic button mushrooms in it, not much else to be said here. It kind of left me flat. I could taste the coconut milk and lemon grass, but not much of any other spices and not very "chickeny." It was warm and filling for an cold, Fall Saturday, so it served it's purpose.
The Thai fried rice was made mild to our request. It was fresh and hot - but lacking in overall flavor, other than peanut oil. It was a short grain rice, and I think I could detect some fish sauce in it. For veggies there was diced carrot and cut pieces of string beans.
I only had a taste of the pumpkin curry, and that did have some spicy-hot kick to it at our request. The sauce was velvety in texture and a lovely shade of dark orange but it was a little too sour for our taste. Not inedible, just not to our liking.
The service was pleasant, kept the water glasses filled up and offered refills of soft drinks. Although we weren't thrilled by what we had this day, were were happy with how freshly everything was made and would like to go back and try their Pad Thai, some day. This was in inexpensive lunch place, and were were not expecting anything more. If I was with friends looking for Thai food lunch, and it was too wet and cold for the food carts and we didn't want to spend the $$ at E-San - we would probably go here again.
