“Best Steakhouse in Portland Oregon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013 via mobile

We have been to all the steakhouses in Portland and nothing beats El Gaucho's. service is fantastic and their steaks melt in your mouth. Who needs a knife? Roasted corn side always tastes fresh off the cob. Caesar salad made at your table can't be beat and bananas foster flambé at your table...wow! We just celebrated a family birthday tonight and it is always consistently great.

“Hey, there's this new technology: Its called AC!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013 via mobile

So, yes, Portland is in the midst of an unusual May heat wave. Temps are pushing 80 -- but it felt like it was hotter in the El Gaucho than that. Maybe their AC wasn't working or something? But when you're charging an average of $100+/person, you shouldn't open if the AC isn't working.

The waiters in black jackets must have been very uncomfortable - but their service remained Top Notch as usual.

The high temp in the Restaurant ment the Ceasar Salad wasn't cold. Didn't tast as good. The Filet Mingon we're cooked fine, but the 12 oz I had was more tender than the 8 oz my wife had. The cheese, fruit and nut platter -- usually piled high with apples, grapes, pear, dates, nuts, looked like it had been reduced by half. The pear wasn't even ripe.

The drinks, wine and coffee where cold/hot as expected. Although my Martini could have been colder and should have had 3 olives! My wife ejoyed her lemon drop.

We were just dissapointed the Temp in the place wasn't more comfortable. We won't be back over the summer - that's for sure!

El Gaucho S, Guest Relations Manager at El Gaucho, responded to this review, May 14, 2013
Hi Davis23,

Thank you for taking the time to write and give us your feedback. We are sorry that you did not enjoy your recent experience with us. We are working diligently with the building to ensure the AC is in good working order when the temperatures elevate again. We are sorry that this added to your discomfort and also affected the temperature of some of the food. This is certainly not the experience nor the ambiance we want our guests to remember.

Our General Manager, John Hooberman, would like to speak with you directly about your recent visit. Please call him directly at the restaurant at 503-227-8794 or email him at jhooberman@elgaucho.com.

We hope to have the opportunity to serve you again, so you can enjoy a true 5-star, El Gaucho Portland dining experience with us.

“For a special occasion, or just hungry for a good steak this though pricey is an excellent choice!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013 via mobile

Located on the famous old Benson Hotel, this first class restaurant simply cannot disappoint. The happy hour is excellent value if time and portion work for you.
The thought of this place makes me know what I want for dinner,

“Excellent Quality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

No matter what you order, it will be very good. It is on the pricy side and it is fairly dim (with regards to the lighting) which can be semi frustrating.

“Steak done well you want?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

This place is spot on for a delicious steak dinner, or even their seafood offerings. A beautiful restaurant with top notch wait staff. Expensive. Great for business or a special occasion.
