“Lookin' for Lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2014

Driving around Portland, trying to get a feel of the city. Limited parking and not much desire to try to squeeze into small parallel spaces in a rental car. Parking deck across the street -- voila! Imperial for lunch. I had a grilled cheese sandwich and asparagus bisque. Hubby had the sausage of the day. Now, what can one reasonably say about a grilled cheese? This one was tasty, with 3 different cheeses ... and not a "processed" one in the bunch. Hubby said the sausage was very flavorful. I got the last cup of asparagus bisque; our server went out of her way to make sure no one else grabbed it at the last minute.

“Try their homemade hot sauce”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2014

We had breakfast there one morning and I asked for tabasco for my omelette. They informed me they had their own hot sauce-actually make it in oak barrels there. I tried it-not hot really but very flavorful. And they sell it too so I picked up some for my son and some friends. Great location-nice people

“A very special breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2014

We stumbled on the Imperial quite by accident and ended up dumbfounded with the incredible food, style and presentation. French toast is really a treat but here it is extraordinary. Accompanied by locally produced pure maple syrup. I was in heaven. A rasher of bacon includes six huge strips we refer to as "walk the plank" bacon; big thick maple smoked slices. Other breakfast entrees enjoyed by friends were very appealing but the french toast set a new high bar for me.

“Interesting, well executed menu”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

You know from the minute you walk in off of Broadway that you're in a Portland eatery; the bike chain light fixtures scream it. The place has a hip, dimly lit vibe ( high ceilings, exposed ductwork, brick everywhere). Amazing bar in the middle.

It was buzzing on the Saturday night we had dinner, but the noise was not so much as to drown out conversation. Waiter was attentive and helpful with menu suggestions.

Eclectic menu with something for everyone. The turnip appetizer was amazing, as was the cauliflower. Fried rabbit surprised me, so tasty. My partner had the burger, which was fantastic. Not your ordinary burger. Another at our table had pork shoulder, from the local Portland pork specialty butcher Tails and Trotters...so good. There was definitely a local food vibe to the offerings. Chocolate orange cream pie along with strawberry rhubarb pie shared by the table, both delicious. Pastry chef knows his/her pies.

My only complaint is the by the glass wine offerings: weak in the quantity and quality of choices. Bottle choices were good, though. I hate it when the glass offerings are meager.

All in all though, I would highly recommend Imperial.

“Outstanding food, wine and service in one of Portland's best restaurants”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

Chef Ben Bettinger and restaurant manager Garrett Peck go all-out to create a fine dining experience in Vitale Paley's two-year old Imperial. Although a different concept than Paley's Place (also one of the best and most consistent restaurants in Portland) Imperial uses fire to create new flavors. The service was amazing. I highly recommend this place.
