“Delightful surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2008

I booked this hotel based on its proximity to the University Hospitals and the price. It is just a few blocks off Exit 1B of I-405. It did not look like much from the photos, but it just went to prove that you should never judge a book by its cover. Although this is an older motel, with exterior rooms, it has been renovated and the room we had was very nice and clean. New furniture, small original bathroom had been redone with good fixtures to maximize efficiency and there was a microwave and fridge. There is a convenience store a block away and it is just a block or two from the free trolley system. The owners could not have been nicer or more helpful. The only downside is that the parking is limited, but it is free. Not a problem in off-season, but could be an issue during busy times.

I was shocked at how crappy this roach motel was -- i've stayed at a few Econo Lodges during my travels, never expecting anymore than a budget motel should offer, but this was terrible! We booked online nonsmoking rooms, but when we got there, they only had smoking rooms available. We had two rooms, both smelled like the morning after a thrown-down college house party. The rooms were fairly clean but pretty small and outdated (about what you'd expect from a budget motel). What burned us the most was that the motel advertised free wireless internet in every room -- this was indispensible since we had a lot of work to do while on vacation. Well, lo and behold, there was no internet access when we got there. Apparently they were working on it and just got excited and put it on the website ahead of time! I tried to get wireless in the tiny lobby but it didn't work there either! Perhaps they have it now, but I wouldn't bet on it. This motel is on the edge of the Portland State University district, but unfortunately there wasn't much to do in this area. We could get a cup of coffee during weekday business hours from a coffee shop across the street, but that's it. I don't remember the motel offering continental breakfast - I think we had to go to the sketchy gas station across the street for granola bars in the morning. The good news was that we could catch the free trolley two blocks away and be in the "real" downtown within 5 minutes. Most of the staff was nice, although one guy acted like it pained him to pull himself away from his office TV when I came in to ask a question. In short, this motel was nowhere near worth the $90/night we paid per room, but it beat sleeping in the car...just barely.

I am not sure it is our location that you actually stayed at, since we have completely renovated the motel we have not heard a negative thing from our guests that stay here. Our guests are always pleasantly surprised with our service and the the quality of our rooms.
