I was here for a one-night stay and was generally very happy with this hotel. The location was perfect for me, with excellent coffee shops and restaurants (try Mother's Bistro -- great!) nearby.

Two things holding me back from a perfect rating:
- Street noise. As other reviewers noted, it's here. I didn't expect much (being a Sunday night) but I was awakened after 1 a.m. and listened to 20 minutes of loud, "happy" people. The room warned me about this, and even provided earplugs on the nightstand.

- Electrical outlets. I travel with a notebook, an iPad, an iPhone, ad a CPAP. I need power/charging for all of these things. There wasn't an empty outlet in the room, nor was there a power strip on the desk for my computers. I normally travel with a compact power strip, but it didn't make it into my overnight bag.

So, I was unplugging, and re-plugging lamps all evening as I moved from the desk to the bed. First-world problem, I know, but also one that could have been anticipated and tended to by the hotel with $20 worth of hardware store gear.

As a friend shared with me yesterday:

"No one uses outlets these days, so I'm going to hide them behind beds and heavy tables."
"Good thinking. I'll limit them to 3 per concourse."

What makes a great hotel? Is it the location? The interior? Design? Resturant? The lobby? The rooms? The other guest? Is the design current? And Relevant?

It is the Gestalt of a place. It brings a calm over you. Where ever it is, there you are..

Hotel Lucia is such a place...

The lobby and area on the ground floor of the hotel are decorated with art. It gave the sense of being in a cool art gallery.
My room was roomy, the beds were super comfortable and I had everything I needed for a great stay. I am a heavy sleeper, but the room came with complimentary ear plugs in case the noise from the street was too great. The room itself looked a little worse for wear in some spots - the molding was dented and the bathroom could use another coat of paint.
The staff were very accommodating. They assisted with a 3am wake up call and checkin-checkout was easy.
The hotel is in a great area of town and an awesome restaurant - The Imperial - has just opened next door.
I would recommend this hotel for business and vacation stay.

The room and lobby were very well appointed, the staff was helpful and courteous, the location was very convenient to downtown and the pearl district. The only complaint we had was that the windows are not built like a modern skyscraper, so sounds from the street do carry up. We were there on the weekend before Halloween, so the "Wooo!" parade of downtown party-ers was somewhat annoying. We were woken up a few times very early in the morning by the valets shouting for cabs. Hotel Lucia knows this is an issue, they even provide earplugs on the bedside table.
We would definitely stay there again, everything else was great, we'll just request a room not facing the main street.
