“Clean, modern hotel near downtown Portland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2010

I booked this hotel because it was highly rated on Trip Advisor and I definitely see why: clean, modern, convenient, friendly/helpful staff. We decided to try our hand at public transportation and there was a Portland Streetcar stop (free transit) right in front of the hotel. Nothing much within walking distance, but it was only about 1 minute to the downtown area. Nice, big room and comfortable bed with numerous pillows. My only gripe is the towels weren't great: scratchy texture. My husband and I also joked that the hallways smelled faintly like chicken and we swore we good smell breakfast through the hallway vents. Not horrible or off-putting though! Parking is $21/day: not great, but I've paid more at other places unfortunately. I'd definitely stay here again when in Portland.

Had a couple of problems at this hotel, but the way the hotel management handled them we will definetely be back to stay again. Nice location, nice size rooms all with partial kitchen or full, wonderful full breakfast, nice rooms and ext. Shuttle takes you within 5 miles in any direction of the hotel for free.

This is the second year that we've had a family reuinion at this hotel and loved it. The staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean, well furnished, and comfortable. Location is great, right on the street car route for a free ride to downtown shopping, along the river trail for nice walks. Free wi-fi is great. Pool looks nice (never used it) and gym is great. Dog friendly hotel is VERY much appreciated. The only downfall is that they charge $21 each day for parking. You must consider this in the room rate when you're considering it's value.

I have stayed at a number of different hotels in Portland and this is by far the best overall value. It is right on the river walking path and also on the line for the free streetcar that goes right into the middle of downtown. The rooms must have been recently redone because they look very hip and modern. The hotel has an incredible free breakfast which we feasted on both days...it included pretty much every breakfast food you could ever think of eating. We went wine tasting about 15 miles south and it was very easy to access the freeway. I highly recommend this hotel for stays in DT Portland.

Quick, friendly service and this hotel accepts dogs without charging an arm and a leg like other Marriott Hotels. Most Marriott owned properties (if they except dogs) call themselves "pet-friendly" but charge you $75 or $100 to have your dog join you. This hotel charges $10/night. The property is not right downtown, but a street car runs past it and there are many nice restaurants close by along the river . Rooms are very nice and have a small kitchenette. Breakfast is included. Love it!

The hotel is very, very clean! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We brought our giant Akita, and were absolutely amazed that our room had zero animal smell. You would never know animals stayed at this hotel if you didn't see them with your own eyes. The breakfast buffet was wonderful, and plentiful, and the pool is awesome! The pool is very warm, like bath water, and doesn't use chlorine, but rather minerals, so it is gentle to the eyes and skin. We are staying there again this weekend, and are totally looking forward to it. It is at the edge of town, but there are many convenient spots to eat, and the street car is right outside. I recommend going to Voodoo Doughnuts while you are there. It is not to be missed. The line is worth the wait!

The Residence Inn delivered on comfort, value, convenience, and service. We had reserved a studio suite, but on check in, we got upgraded to a 2-bedroom suite. Staff were all quite friendly and accomodating. The rooms are standard Residence Inn layout & appointment, which is to say comfortable and complete.

I wondered about the location of the hotel at first: it's "riverside," yes, but in the shadows of the I-5 overpass. No matter; we didn't notice the freeway at all, and we could see the river - granted, it wasn't a wide-open idyllic view, but it was a view nonetheless. The location on the river meant we could walk along the river path to the downtown area in about 10 minutes, or hop on the FREE streetcar (the hotel sits at the southern edge of the ride-free zone)

We had an excellent meal at the nearby McCormick & Schmicks, and good breakfast at the hotel, and also at the Little River Cafe.

Gym is better-equipped than most hotel gyms, and the pool/hot tub were clean and inviting, also.
