“Less than we expected”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Having twice previously stayed at his hotel when it was a 'Coast Hotel' property we were looking forward to our Portland get-away. Regrettably, we were disappointed with the hotel this time. The room cleaning was well below ANY acceptable standard we're used to for a 3.5-4 star property. My wife noticed that on the bathroom floor, there was hair and other 'residue', next to the waste basket that was there when we arrived, and was still there when we left. Not good. That's only one example of superficial cleaning that we observed while there. The toiletries were not replaced or refreshed after cleaning which again is either a management 'cost cutting' or cleaning staff 'corner cutting' issue. Would we stay there again? No.

Hello Doug D,

I appreciate you leaving a review although I was humbled to read it. I apologize that housekeeping was not up to our usual standards for your visit and we would have liked the opportunity to make amends before you left the hotel.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you would like to share the other details of your stay with me.

I was in Portland for a training at the Nia Technique, which is only a block from The Paramount. Though a little on the pricey side, The Paramount is close to restaurants, parks, grocery stores and the farmer's market. The staff there is very friendly and accommodating. The food in Tasting East is GREAT!!

Green Features: The Paramount has trashcans that are sectioned for recycling which is very prevalent in Portland.

Great, responsive, and extremely friendly staff. The computers in the biz center are very slow & could stand to be replaced. They could also offer coffee in the lobby. Room was very comfortable. Wifi worked great & plenty of nice big fresh towels. View from the room was wonderful, and room was very quiet....loved that. Close to numerous great restaurants including the Asian restaurant directly adjacent to and accessible from the hotel.

Hotel is lovely, staff is great. Location was lovely. Good transit to Portland from Airport, and generally all around. You don't need a car at all.

Lobby is clean and bright, with a great restaurant (again, the staff there were so lovely - friendly and kind, fast service!)

The room was lovely, bright and with good shades and light control (important to sensitive sleepers). We heard no other guests the entire stay - 1 week - and the hotel was SOLD OUT.

Let me repeat - we heard not a peep, TV noise, phone ring or other indication other humans were nearby. That alone is stunning.

We did have two issues: the jet sprays in the tub were black with mold (two calls to front desk over two days). They were finally clean on our last night so there was the good/bad. There was also black mildew in the shower, in the grout.

Also, one day it looked like the staff stopped making our bed in the middle of it and left. But hey, who knows? Maybe a bad day or called away and forgot to finish. It happens.

Oh! They sent a big fax for us without fee and ensured we had a receipt.

The hallways had great local-focused art, and the photos in the rooms were all local scenes by *local* artists. Love.

We were granted money off our many-day stay and late checkout, as well as an apology for the mildew and bed issues.

To be clear - we LOVED the Paramount. The concierge was so wonderful, he was _happy_ we got in during good weather and truly cared about whether we had a good time when we came home. It was like having a Mom away from your Mom ("you had a good time? Oh, that's really wonderful, I'm so glad!" {No? maybe just my Mom})

All hotels have small glitches sometimes, but we really enjoyed our stay here and the staff was fantastic (and fair)!

We will stay on our next trip, without consideration of other hotels.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet. Most rooms have a good view over the square (front) or pocket-sized park (back...

front desk was very friendly and gave us several restaurants to go to....bed is firm and sheet are a good quality, not a very updated bathroom but ok...vending machines for a coke on all floors where out but I am sure that is not the hotels problem...there is a starbucks right next door..and a theatre across the street...easy access to highways..so we where glad we stayed here.

Room Tip: this is a boutique hotel all rooms are facing a street...front is very busy with balconies but if yo...

Looked through other Portland hotels and booked at the Paramount. For the price, I had expected something updated and clean as reflected in their pictures. I was surprised to find the lobby clean and updated but the rooms like an overly brown blended space l. Carpet was dirty and there is only one mirror in the coat closest. I originally booked a balcony room but when I checked in late in the evening, we were in a standard room. Best part of the hotel was the service and the valet (which I purchased as a package as it is $31 if you pay it when you get in). If you're looking for an average place to rest before driving further north, this would be ideal.

My wife and I ended up in Portland somewhat accidentally, not intending to stay there, but it got late, we didn't feel like driving over an hour to get home and decided to try the Paramount. We are glad we did! The Front Desk attendant Tina was extremely helpful and friendly, showing us on a map where all the good restaurants and bars were, moving us up to the 12th floor at no extra charge, and being generally very cool and nice to talk with. We got a great rate for the room, especially compared to other hotels in the area. The room was very pleasant, clean and comfortable with an awesome view of the courtyard and city below.
The entire experience was great and we would return for sure.

Room Tip: Get one overlooking the courtyard, looks great at night!
