“Nice June restaurant selection”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

We decided to take advantage of Portland's restaurant week and try Portland Prime. We enjoyed very nice salads as a starter; they allowed my husband to do the Caesar. The chopped salad was very good and he enjoyed his as well. The focaccia bread was warm and covered with a garlic butter. The salad was followed with a palate cleansing lemon sorbet We both choose the prime rib entree which was a good serving size and cooked as requested. Dessert was a nice portion and again, they allowed a second option of keylime pie. I would say the crust was too thick and hard to get through the bread pudding was good but I would have liked a little more sauce as the pudding was a little dry. Our waitress Patti was attentive and paced the meal well. I would recommend this restaurant if you are willing to spend the dollars.

“Recommended Eatery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

Had an early dinner on a Thursday. Not crowded. Staff was very attentive and pleasant. Did not treat us differently when they realized we wold not be drinking anything but tap water (they did try to slyly sell bottled water before offering tap). My wife had ribeye, I had salmon. The steak was generously sized. Seemed a bit under cooked for medium, but might be a personal taste. She did waiver between medium and medium well when she ordered and they did check back a couple of times to see if she wanted it cooked some more. Very attentive. My fish also seemed a little undercooked, but again could just be a mater of preference. They asked if it was a special occasion and we said it was for our anniversary. After the dinner they brought out a delightful crème brûlée on the house. Used a groupon without any issue. All in all a satisfying experience.

“Tried out Lunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

We stopped in recently for lunch after being nearby in the area. Having never been here, we were curious what to expect. The restaurant itself is very nice inside, tastefully decorated, and the staff are certainly friendly & helpful. However, a big let-down was the food. There was hardly any steak to be found on the lunch menu, and unfortunately they were all out of prime rib for sandwiches. (We are not really sure how this is possible at a steak restaurant. Hopefully not a common occurrence.) Their prices were certainly respectable for a lunch in a fancier restaurant, at around $15 for entrees. But... we are reminded of the old tagline from the TV commercials... "Where's the Beef?"

“Great Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Located in the lobby of the Embassy Suites, this is great steak place in downtown Portland. I have eaten here twice. Each time the staff has been helpful. This last time I was in the food was very good and came quickly.

“Overrated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

I can remember eating at this restaurant when it was the Chophouse. It was pretty good then. On a recent visit to Portland I was disappointed to see that along with the name change, the dining experience had also changed - and not for the better. Our server seemed to be on the new side so perhaps that might have been the reason for some of the issues, but certainly not all. In general, service was quite slow and this was not a busy night. The first problem we encountered was that it took forever for our drink orders to arrive. When they did come they had forgotten one drink. The calamari appetizers were on the salty side and the breading was doughy. The crab dip was good. The French onion soup was very nice. My steak was overdone and on the tough side. Considering the price, this was unacceptable. After the dinner we had to wait again for the check. All in all not the best dinner experience in Portland.
