“Nice hotel close to PDX”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

We are glad we chose this hotel over the Embassy Suites. It is located close to the Portland Airport. The neighborhood is quiet, clean and fairly safe. The location is at the Cascade Station.

We were welcomed by Natalie, at the front desk. She helped check us into a room on the 3rd floor, located right after you get off the elevator. It was quiet despite being so close to the airport, since we were on the 3rd floor, the top floor above us insulated us from the airplanes flying overhead. We found the rooms to be clean and comfortable for a family of 4. Our room had a full size pullout bed, along with 2 queens. The beds were comfortable.

Our room came with a coffee maker, mini refrigerator and microwave. Our refrigerator was broken, but they came out promptly to replace it with a working one. Our room was equipped with an in room safe and a large flat screen television with cable. Complimentary wifi for those wishing to surf the internet. The sink area was separated from the toilet and full tub and shower.

The pool and hot tub area was a nice amenity, as our teenagers enjoyed the facility. It was clean and well taken care of. There were also lifts available in both the hot tub and pool so wheel chair guest were accommodated if they wish to go for a swim or to take a soak in the hot tub. There was a single unisex washroom/shower located in the pool area, only complaint, was there was no body wash or shampoo if you had wanted to shower up before going back up to your room. There's also a workout room with the latest equipment for those that wish to workout and exercise during their stay.

If you are here for an extended stay, they also have a nice laundry room with front loading washers and dryers on the first floor, so no need to over pack, you can pack light and wash as you go.

They offer a complimentary serve yourself breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage links, pancakes or french toast, hot oatmeal with all the fixings. It was quite a spread for breakfast, there was fresh fruit (melons and grapefruit slices) along with yogurt. They had baked goods like donuts, danishes and bagels. There was a toaster station where you can chose your own bread (white/wheat) and make your own toast and spread it with butter, peanut butter, honey and jams. All this was served with coffee, orange juice, apple juice, tomato juice, milk and ice water.

Location was another plus for those wishing to do a little tax-free shopping, There was a large Target, IKEA, Staples, Marshalls, Best Buys located within a walking distance from the hotel. There was also a Jamba Juice, Starbucks, Famous Dave's BBQ and a sandwich shop located close by the hotel. They offered a complimentary shuttle to the airport. Everything is within driving distance, it took us 20 minutes to get to drive to the Oregon Zoo. 10 minutes to get to the Clackamas Mall and 50 minutes to drive down to Woodburn to shop at the outlet center.

We had a good stay and will definitely return in the future.

The Hyatt Place hotel was nice and clean. It had a large living room area with desk, bar, microwave, coffee maker. Shower and toilet separate from bathroom sink. We did a short overnight stay for a flight out the next day. Some noise through the door of the adjoining room but they quieted down when requested. Very close to airport but airplane noise wasn't an issue. Room air conditioner made some noise but we just set it to run the fan instead of being automatic. Nice hot shower. Breakfast looked good but we didn't want to sit down and they didn't have any "to go" containers which really surprised us! Lotion and toothbrush were available as complimentary items but hair spray was available for purchase. Front desk was helpful telling us where to get gas before returning rental car. I'd stay again!

Room Tip: Try to avoid one with an adjoining door!

This is our first time staying at a Hyatt Place. We would have rated this as "excellent" except for the noise we could hear in our room from the airport runway. Our room was on the top floor which might have contributed to the airport noise. We liked the concept of the Hyatt Place. The room was immaculate and the room layout was extremely functional ... desk, refrigerator, L-shaped couch, king bed and coffee/tee maker. Breakfast was included with the price of room and featured hot egg sandwiches as well as the typical continental spread. Free parking, minutes to the airport and airport transportation provided by the hotel. Expect some airport noise between the hours of 6AM and 11PM ... try a room lower than the top floor to mitigate the airport noise. There is large shopping mall within walking distance that includes a number of restaurant choices. We would recommend this hotel to those of you needing to be close to the Portland Airport.

Hello and thank you so much for rating Hyatt Place Portland on TripAdvisor!
I want to apologize for your discomfort; we rarely receive guest comments about airplane noise because we have quadruple-paned windows so I am sorry to hear about your experience.

I am thrilled to see that your stay was enjoyable otherwise! We do hope you will give us another opportunity to serve you and will make every effort to place you on a lower floor. Our rooms are all identical from floor-to-floor.

I love the Hyatt Place concept, so I had high hopes for this property going in, and I wasn't disappointed. If you've stayed at a Hyatt Place before, you can expect the typical room layout--large entertaining area with couch (that can double as crash space), desk with plenty of ports to plug all your gadgets into, refrigerator, and a HUGE swivel-mount TV that rivals in size with your standard home TV--with accessible ports to plug in your computer or game console. The rooms are clean, modern, and to be honest, may spoil you on other hotel concepts.

The best feature about the rooms is that they're designed with the traveler in mind. There isn't a whole lot of excess decorative furniture that makes you feel cramped once you've unloaded all your luggage, and there are plugs on the nightstand--a concept lost on many hotels--so your phone/tablet can stay within arm's reach and charge while you sleep.

The bed was comfortable, as were the pillows, which is something that's hard to find in many hotels. The room has your standard bathroom amenities--including a TSA-friendly, complimentary tube of toothpaste, something that's become a signature of the Hyatt brand. And may favorite part, the towels are nice and plush as if they're brand new and haven't yet been subjected to years of over-bleaching.

We arrived late--well after the dining area and room service had closed. While the Hyatt Place does offer a selection of muffins, sandwiches, and other baked goods for sale at reception around the clock, sometimes you just need a fresh, hot, meal. No problem here! The bar/kitchen stays open late (midnight, perhaps), and we were able to order a hot meal to take to our room.

In the mornings they offer a complimentary breakfast that puts other "free breakfast" offers to shame. Served buffet-style, selections include various hot breakfast sandwiches (that make an excellent snack on the go), fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, juices and coffee. Many hotels easily charge $15 a person for a breakfast as generous as what the Hyatt Place offers.

And while the Hyatt Place is almost perfect, I do have to point out one minor annoyance. They only have ice machines on floors two and four, so if you have a room on say...floor three, you have to take the elevator up or down once to fetch your ice. Would this prevent me from staying here? Absolutely not, but it is worth mentioning if you're in a hurry and need to throw something on ice before you go!

Overall the Hyatt Place is a great choice!

We arrived late to find a room with a broken after our luggage was inside the room. It took almost an hour to get back into the room. The manager declined to show us any consideration on the room for our inconvenience since we had prepaid through Orbitz. Need to avoid this place.

Thank you for reviewing us on TripAdvisor! I apologize that your stay was anything less than perfect and I am sorry that we had experienced some difficulties in repairing your guestroom door lock. To elaborate on what the front desk associate was trying to convey to you about booking through Orbitz, please allow me to explain. In a case like this when the guest has been inconvenienced, like you have, we would absolutely offer some sort of restitution, and since this was prepaid through Orbitz, it is actually Orbitz's credit card that we have on file for the room and not yours so we would actually be giving funds back to Orbitz and not the guest. This is one of the reasons why we like to encourage the guest to book directly through Hyatt.com as Hyatt offers a best rate guarantee. We also encourage all guests to enroll in Hyatt's loyalty program, Hyatt Gold Passport, as it allows guest to accumulate points which can be used for future stays as well as other benefits. Again, I truly apologize for the inconveniences that you had experienced and hope that you give us another opportunity to serve you. Thank you

I had never stayed at a Hyatt Place and wasn't sure what to expect so I was pleasantly surprised with the spacious rooms, free parking, airport shuttle, ample free breakfast, late night cafe, fitness center, and 24 hour indoor pool (the spa & pool even has apparatus to lift & lower those with disabilities). The location is also great since it's within walking distance to a Target and several restaurants in area. Buffalo Wild Wings and Ihop are also just next door.

We stayed in a king room with a fold out bed. There was a nice half wall that separates the two areas so our kids could have their own space. The couch that the fold out bed was a nice L-size not tiny two person couch which was also very comfortable to relax on before continuing our journey.

Hello and thank you for reviewing us on TripAdvisor! I am so happy to hear that your first Hyatt Place experience was with us and you were able to enjoy some of our amenities! I agree that it is great having so many shops and restaurants nearby. Within the next couple of months, Cascade Station will be adding a Wendy's, Chipotle Mexican Grill, and ParkStone Wood Kitchen and Taps; all of which I am very excited about. Thank you again and we'll see you next time!
