Very nice place to visit not too far from downtown Portland. The grounds were well maintained and nice walk. It was peaceful and good feeling. The view from the top overlooking the city and the airport was amazing.

“Peaceful Spiritual Experience, Bucket List Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

I would recommend this experience to everyone. It was a great walk through a beautiful mountain and left you feeling closer to God. The trees were amazing and the pictures I took are wall hanging worthy. I am not catholic but you do not have to attend the mass to have a spiritual experience here.

“Glorious and serene, Magnificent, beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

Awe inspiring, the best thing we did on our trip to Portland was visit the Grotto. The huge redwoods and maples and numerous other varieties of trees and plants were astounding. The beauty in this place far surpassed my imagination. The wonderous statues and buildings, the cliff and the elevator to the top into another world of wonder. We spent hours just taking it all in and didn't want to leave. Went to the Rose garden and Japanese Garden as well and while they were beautiful they couldn't come close to the beauty at the Grotto...Make sure you visit if you go to Portland, we took bus #12 to get there from downtown. Looking forward to another trip close to Christmas time as we understand the lights are something to see also

“beautiful gem with hidden surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

The Grotto is not just a great place to worship (if you are Catholic of course). They have a library/gift shop, they have outdoor services (in the summer), beautiful Christmas festival with animals and lights (for kids enjoyment).
On top of that you take the elevator and go up... you'll find another gem. But I'll keep it secret ;)

“Serenity at it's best!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

I spent the day at the Grotto on a recent trip to Portland. I was first amazed at it's location. On a busy thoroughfare sits 62 acres of quiet serenity. The landscape is inviting. The works of art from the Seven Stations of The Cross, to the replica of the Pieta, to the unique pieces on the upper level are simply breathtaking. The atmosphere was inviting and content. It was a joy to sit and reflect on all that Christ has done. The labrynth was inviting and convicting. Thank you to the folks who make the Grotto possibly. I pray God's richest blessings! The place is certainly a jewel for Portland and I would encourage everyone to go when in Portland.
