“Lots of elephants, good zoo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

My wife and I love a good zoo. We visited the zoo on a rainy day and almost had the zoo to ourselves. We really enjoyed the interaction we had with the animals at the zoo.

Because there were few people at the zoo we were able to get up close to quite a few animals that were trying to escape the rain. They have a great group of Asian elephants at the zoo as well. The admittance price was very good for the experience we had.

“Inexpensive and informative place to visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

Went on a drizzly day (the third Tuesday of the month has discounted admissions so it is an even greater deal) and had a great time wandering around the zoo. It is well maintained, well designed, and informative, and you can easily spend a couple of hours wandering around. Good viewing areas, fun for children and adults alike.

“Great educational opportunities abound at this great zoo.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

The Oregon Zoo is a great place just to visit for an hour or all day. Few realize this, but the Oregon Zoo has a great education/conservation department which has helped make the zoo a great place to learn about wildlife near and far and provides many programs to help children and adults learn about how to better care for nature in our own backyard as well as around the world. There ZooSnooze program and Family Camperoo are among my favorite programs, as they provide an inside view of some of the zoo's finest dedicated staff and a rare view of the animals after the zoo closes and before it opens. (There is something very thrilling about waking up to lions roaring and monkeys howling.) You also get the opportunity to learn about animal husbandry and the unique challenges of zoo veterinary care. Best of all is the opportunity to meet several animals up close. Other great programs offered by the zoo are the ZooMobiles that bring animals to the classrooms along with Show Programs which present many school assemblies with spectacular flight demonstrations but hawks, eagles, owls, and, my personal favorite, vultures. Finally, another great opportunity many miss at the Oregon Zoo is ZOO CAMP. I had the privilege for several years to teach science at several Zoo Camps and have seen first hand what a great program it is. Lots of fun combined with learning AND WILDLIFE!!!

“Inexpensive entertainment for the entire family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

Inexpensive entertainment for the entire family. Lots to see so give yourself enough time to take it all in. Part of the zoo was closed for renovations so we really don’t know what we missed. What we did see, is as good as any other zoo in the country. Not that we were looking, but, we didn’t really see many souvenir or food concessions inside the park so won’t comment. Supporting the zoo with our admission is enough; we didn’t need t-shirts or sippy cups anyway.

“Don't Let the Construction Keep You Away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

We just visited the Oregon Zoo for the first time in early October, 2013, and yes there are places that are closed, like the family petting zoo. And yes, the train was not working. But besides having to retrace our steps at the cheetahs, this is still a fabulous zoo with multiple viewing areas and a nice variety of animals. We loved the rest of the layout. It has a great flow that allowed us to meander without a map and still get to see everything.

The grounds people also spent inordinate amounts of time installing the holiday lights. I wish we lived in Oregon so we could come back to see the zoo lit up. It promises to be quite beautiful.

People are allowed to bring food in, so we got some deli sandwiches from Kenny and Zuke's and had a picnic on the lawn.
