Description: Urban Farmer redefines the modern steakhouse with an emphasis on Northwest, sustainable ingredients and simple, straightforward preparations within a farmer chic environment. The menu honors national and local culinary traditions sourcing ingredients from some of the Northwest’s finest eco-friendly producers like Sudan Farms, Wooden Bridge, Nicky Farms, and Cattail Creek. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and happy hour, Urban Farmer remains a reliable and approachable destination amidst Portland’s bustling food scene.Designer David Ashen of D-ASH Design in New York created a unique restaurant space within the 8th floor atrium lobby of the Nines Hotel. The space makes use of organic, reclaimed and modern materials such as a 20-foot communal table sourced from an old-growth Douglas Fir. The spacious “Deck” captures the light-hearted feel of outdoor dining and is accented by a field of wheat grass in the center of the room. A video installation by one of Portland’s favorite experimental artists, Matt McCormick, rolls stunning images of the city’s rural and urban landscapes. The “Pantry” offers an intimate setting with walls of steel and reclaimed timber, as well as shelves stacked with vibrant jars of pickled fruits and vegetables. The Library , adjacent to Urban Farmer in the lobby, is the ideal venue for guests to host private parties, play a game of pool or enjoy a quiet cocktail.

“Thanksgiving meal to remember”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013

My husband and I decided to try the Thanksgiving pre-fixe menu at Urban Farmer this year. We enjoyed every moment of our holiday meal. Kudos to the wonderful staff that made the experience delightful from the moment we walked into the high-ceilinged venue.5 stars to the chef and his team for the elegant food. We especially enjoyed the charcuterie board of local meats. I dare say, best meal in a long while.

“Urban Farmer - Portland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

Mainly a steak restaurant. Found the price a bit high ($48) given all you got was a piece of steak and you had to pay for any sides. No sauces were avaialble... so a bit on the dry side.
Great bar and cocktail list !

“Nice but a little bit over-priced ”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2013

I went there for lunch with a friend. I had a Caesar salad in which I added some Maitake mushroom and it coast me $16 which a found kind of expensive for some lettuce, 3 croutons and a little bit of Parmesan.
The dish was good but not Fantastic, there was enough for me but I have a small appetite. Not sure it would be enough for anybody else.
But I will give it another shot just because I've seen photos of their plate of cheeses and I want to try that!

“Urban chic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

Urban Farmer is country gone chic blending an atmosphere of modern urbane with country elements in its decor. The theme carries over to its lunch menu featuring American classics done upscale such as butternut squash soup with yogurt and harissa, pot roast with pickled carrots and a popover pudding, and a shrimp with grits accompanied with a poached egg and pulled pork. The food is beautifully presented and has unexpected yet welcomed flavor punches.
Groups can be accomodated in side areas set off from the open seating, tho service for such was a bit slow. The server brought the bill without offering us a look at the dessert menu which then gave a feeling of being rushed to leave.

“Oyesters were magnificent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

All the food was great and the service by Merideth our waitress was exceptional. Loved the cornbread and the oysters the most. My only recommendation would be to add a few more good reasonably priced wines on the wine list. There was not a whole lot to choose from for someone on an expense account.
