“Convenient, efficient airport hotel with a modern touch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

Wynn at check-in was the first of many encounters with an efficient, modern, airport hotel, part of the Starwood chain. Though other hotels nearby have suite offerings, which might be more convenient for many (like families), we as a couple had a typical smallish but convenient "smart" 5th-story single room with king bed and big feather pillows. No bathtub, no microwave in room and a downstairs flooring surface that looks like concrete. But the room itself was lovely, with a large HDTV directly facing the bed -- perfectly located -- and the most comfortable (firm mattress) bed we had on our entire 8-day trip to Portland. Downstairs, live music by a talented singer welcomed us on our return from dinner; a stylish bar also offers drinks. One quibble: the air conditioning unit in the room blew loud and hard, despite attempts to adjust it, and it's a window-style unit, not a vented system. We were hot-and-cold throughout the night. Airport transportation, though complimentary, was slow -- with stops at other Starwood properties. A family on our bus, cutting it short, surely missed their flight. But all-in-all, this was a good choice, and I imagine the chain will improve this property with time. It's new.

Room Tip: Some rooms face Mount St. Helens. Ask for one. And use AAA if you have it.

We asked for a ground floor room, but then found phone reception in the room (I had work calls) was zero. They were great about the move, but for a modern, wifi generation and super hip hotel, that was a surprise worth mentioning. Good gym. Nice concept with food on sale at restaurant or convenient store near desk, and even bikes to borrow (many bike trails nearby, so this is a nice feature). No hesitation to go back. $.99 and $1.99 breakfasts at nearby Ikea restaurant. View of amazing Mt Hood on a clear day.

Room Tip: Avoid lower floors if you have ATT until something changes.

A very attractive, but definitely very contemporary accommodation , very quiet, good work space and a very friendly and helpful staff!

Great airport location, but it is a quick 6 mile drive into Pearl and downtown! Light rail is very close by!

This is not a full service, room service resort but rather a respite for the active knowledgeable traveler. It has all of the essentials, a comfortable bed full darkness shades for a good nights sleep, a pool, and gym area. Close to the airport but not so noisy that you feel your room is on the runway. There is food available down stairs or a number of restaurants near by. The casual bar down stairs allows for drinks in doors or out in whats called the backyard. It has almost a Japanese or European hostel feel. Well thought out great for a active person but wouldn't be the place for someone looking for full service.

Room Tip: The rooms seem fairly equal. I will say they have the best luggage carts I have seen.

Quick trip to Portland from so cal. Pleasantly surprised. A wonderful gem of a hotel. Kayla made our stay here one of the best hotel experiences ever. Thank you. Comfortable hotel walking distance to light rail to Portland. One of the best hotels we have stayed at.

Much more fun than most limited service airport hotels. Funky, unexpected design works for either the younger traveler (or the young at heart traveler). Breakfast is not included, but is provided in a grab and go type of setting. Coffee is complimentary. Full bar with limited food choices for dinner is a great plus over most airport hotels. Pool table in the lobby and lots of great seating areas for gathering with friends or just getting out of your room when you're traveling by yourself. The pool is big enough to actual feel like you can make a lap. Nice outdoor seating area that is shielded from road noise. Shuttle to airport and 2 blocks from Cascade Station - the light rail that will take you anywhere in the city. Great choice for the money!

Beautiful, modern new hotel situated near several eateries, shopping, light rail, and the airport. Easy check in/out. Room was very designer-modern, with a platform bed, workstation with chair, and a little bench. Huge flat screen TV loaded with lots of interactive features to describe hotel services, local area, and the weather. Bathroom very clean and spacious with a huge, glass-doored shower. Pocket door between toilet/shower area and sink/closet area is an interesting choice.

The media hub on the desk is really cool. In addition to providing multiple charging outlets, there are also receptacles for HDMI and RCA-style a/v cables so that you can play or stream movies to the flatscreen from your own laptop. Bring your own cables.

Also cool is the Big Ben Moonbeam alarm clock, the kind that wakes you up gently by progressively lighting up and then flashing (no buzzer). I always wanted to try one of those because I was skeptical that it wouldn't wake me up. But it really worked!

Food is available downstairs 24/7 through a self-serve kitchen area. It's mainly frozen sandwiches (breakfast and lunch/dinner) that you heat yourself, but it's decent if you're on the run or want a late night snack. There are also beverages, cereals/milk, fruit, etc.

Gym and beautiful indoor pool are also available 24/7. I believe there was a hot tub.

The only drawback: the lobby bar. It is a fashionable martini bar, and there are several little loung-style sofas and benches, very posh and stylish. That's not the problem. The problem is the young, local clientele and all their romantic angst. Drunk girls dragging each other off by the elevators with an urgent "I've got to talk to you", drama unfolding when Susie sees Billy putting the moves on Nancy. It was just a little too much if you want a leisurely drink before bed. If I'm purposefully going to a place like that, fine. But a little lobby bar? In an airport hotel? It's not a deal breaker, but beware what lurks in the lobby late on a weekend night!
