My husband and I just came back from a terrific stay at the deLuxe. Everything from the gorgeous lobby and stunningly beautiful Gracie's all the way to the super comfy bed was perfect. When we arrived, we we greeted warmly and told that we were the lucky recipients of a free upgrade to the Premier King Suite. Now to be fair, my recollection was that this was the suite that I had booked in the first place. But, I was not about to complain. The suite was fabulous! The sitting room was spacious and had beautiful vintage furniture and cool retro colors. There were not one, but TWO large screen hi def tv's in the suite. The black and white photographs that line the hotel walls are quite interesting and add charm to this themed hotel. We also loved how the huge black and white photo that is the cetnerpiece of the hotel lobby kept changing every time we came in. That was pretty neat!
I know the basic room are pretty small, but I have to say, if you dn't mind spending a few extra dollars, the suite was very spacious and even the bathroom had plenty of room to spread out. The suite had two closets, a desk, a sofa and comfy lounge chair with two ottomans. The minibar was expensive, but the coffee was pretty good for "in room" (LOVED the international delight instead of powdered creamer!). We took advantage of the pillow menu and the staff brought up our choices right away. Oh, and the radio set to the 40's and 50's jazz music was a nice touch when we arrived.
Lots of folks have mentioned the parking situation (thank you for the warning!), so we found a very convenient parking spot about one block away on Yamhill that was only $5 night. There were others in the area even cheaper. So, as long as you don't mind a short walk, save yourself the extra $20. We even had free overnight parking on the street one of the nights we were there.
The in house restaurant, Gracie's is elegant and offers a nice selection of wine and good food. We weren't blown away, but service was excellent and the food was well prepared. We really liked the house favorite pinot noir as well. For a truly fantastic meal, try Pazzo's downtown, it's Italian, but with an urban flair. And Typhoon had scrumptious Thai. Old Towne pizza (the "haunted" pizza place) was very charming and rustic with good pizza and beer to boot.
All and all a terrific stay at the deLuxe and will definitely stay there again next time we are in Portland.
