We recently stayed at Hotel deLuxe over Memorial Day weekend. The hotel is designed in an Art Deco style with a Hollywood theme predominant. While most "themed" hotels can veer into the realm of kitsch, this hotel remained tasteful. Our request for a high floor room with a city view was accommodated. The staff was very friendly, providing tips on the Portland scene and environs, with the valets also asking if we needed directions or bottled water. The room was very spacious. Our only complaint was the bathroom, as it was very small. The breakfast in the hotel restaurant was very good. The hotel is located close to the Pearl District. We would definitely stay here again as it is a good value for the money.

My husband and I just came back from a terrific stay at the deLuxe. Everything from the gorgeous lobby and stunningly beautiful Gracie's all the way to the super comfy bed was perfect. When we arrived, we we greeted warmly and told that we were the lucky recipients of a free upgrade to the Premier King Suite. Now to be fair, my recollection was that this was the suite that I had booked in the first place. But, I was not about to complain. The suite was fabulous! The sitting room was spacious and had beautiful vintage furniture and cool retro colors. There were not one, but TWO large screen hi def tv's in the suite. The black and white photographs that line the hotel walls are quite interesting and add charm to this themed hotel. We also loved how the huge black and white photo that is the cetnerpiece of the hotel lobby kept changing every time we came in. That was pretty neat!

I know the basic room are pretty small, but I have to say, if you dn't mind spending a few extra dollars, the suite was very spacious and even the bathroom had plenty of room to spread out. The suite had two closets, a desk, a sofa and comfy lounge chair with two ottomans. The minibar was expensive, but the coffee was pretty good for "in room" (LOVED the international delight instead of powdered creamer!). We took advantage of the pillow menu and the staff brought up our choices right away. Oh, and the radio set to the 40's and 50's jazz music was a nice touch when we arrived.

Lots of folks have mentioned the parking situation (thank you for the warning!), so we found a very convenient parking spot about one block away on Yamhill that was only $5 night. There were others in the area even cheaper. So, as long as you don't mind a short walk, save yourself the extra $20. We even had free overnight parking on the street one of the nights we were there.

The in house restaurant, Gracie's is elegant and offers a nice selection of wine and good food. We weren't blown away, but service was excellent and the food was well prepared. We really liked the house favorite pinot noir as well. For a truly fantastic meal, try Pazzo's downtown, it's Italian, but with an urban flair. And Typhoon had scrumptious Thai. Old Towne pizza (the "haunted" pizza place) was very charming and rustic with good pizza and beer to boot.

All and all a terrific stay at the deLuxe and will definitely stay there again next time we are in Portland.

Comfortable bed. No hallway noise. No noise from floors above or below. No street noise. Good bellhops/porters. Good lounge (see Driftwood Lounge review). Clean. Good housekeeping. Nice pillow menu and room service promptness of same. Nice luggage stowage accommodations for post-checkout departures. Nice security.

The hallways of the seven floors have over 300 screen prints from famous movies made in the 1930's, 40's, and 50's. The room decor was of similar era and the bathrooms are decked out in marble, tile and chrome. The pillow menu is great. The movies on demand for $11 each is costly.

My reservation on the Excellent rating is the concierge: great directions to downtown destinations; offered insights; and good recommendations on dinner. But the highly acclaimed Portland Japanese Gardens are not easily accessed if one doesn't have a rental car. First concierge told us we didn't need the bus, that it wasn't far, just walk it (which is acknowledged to be up a serious hill). He reluctantly gave us the bus info, though we were suspicious of its reliability.

The second concierge acknowledged the tall hike but also suggested taking the MAX train to the Zoo and walking down to the gardens. Sounds good in doing so failed to mention that it was 1.7 miles down to the Gardens on a two-lane, twisty mountain road, without sidewalks or a path, with blind corners. And few heeded the 25 mph speed limit. It just seems to be that if you are going to suggest that to hotel guests that you ought to know it and advise them of the risks.

But then again that was/is an unlikely worry for most guests I hope.

Great property with a very friendly staff. The beds were super comfortable offering down mattress pads, comforter and pillows. Amenities were great and the onsite restaurant had o.k. food, but terrible service.

The location to downtown is perfect. The hotel is in walking distance to some great restaurants and nightlife. Overall it was a wonderful stay.

Such a gem. My husband and I stayed here for my birthday weekend away. We could not get over how friendly and acommodating everyone on their staff was. From the surprise plans my husband coordinated with the manager to the valet, everyone was so helpful and nice. The room was beautiful and the king size bed was soft with just as soft sheets. Everything was so clean. Great location. Fairly central, but not in the middle of all the noise and businesses. I only wish they had a spa in house, but it just forced us to venture to other parts of Portland. I would definitely recommend Hotel Deluxe to others and would look forward to staying there again.
