“Great downtown location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

This a great location to take advantage of walking into the downtown area, just 5 minutes to Pioneer Square shopping. As others have mentioned the pricing is a little pricey, and somewhat limited. Checkout the lot across the street, which appeared to be a lot cheaper especially for weekend stays.
The rooms have more furniture than should be allowed with a king bed. The bed is very comfortable. The bathrooms have been upgraded with a nice big shower. The odd thing is the heating system. The first night we turned it all the way down, but the fan purred on, and the room seemed too warm. The second night in a stroke of genius, we turned the dial all the way to the top, surprise surprise, the fan shut down, and with the window opened a little the room cooled to a comfortable temperature. The only downside to opening the window is the sound of the steeetcars rumbling and squeaky by in the morning were even more noticeable. But waking up early gave us a chance to get breakfast in the little restaurant on the main floor. That was worth the effort, great flavours, French Toast and smoked salmon hash were just right, the coffee was very good but a little pricey.
Kudos to the youthful staff, always friendly , helpful and knowledgeable about the area.
Without the heating issue I would have rated it a 4, maybe they will see fit to give operating instructions.

Room Tip: Getting a river view or north facing room will mean less noise from the street cars

“Great location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

This was our first stay at this hotel, using the Living Social coupon. Parking as mentioned previously was a little pricey but considering the location its to be expected. Easy to walk to downtown for restaurants and shops and close to public transportation.

The room was nice but a little updating would help. There was a lounge chair that was oddly situated right next to the bed which didn't give too much clearance to walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The heater was a little loud but at least it wasn't blowing directly towards the bed! The bed comfortable and bathroom was modern but the partial shower glass partition didn't completely keep the water in the shower area.

We did make use of the cocktail and breakfast coupons which we thought was a great deal. We'd definitely go back for happy hour, the female bartender was fantastic - great personality & service!! Although the entire breakfast wasn't covered by the coupons, we still thought it was a deal!

Would we return? Yes! Loved the location and we'd recommend to others too.

“Great Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

The comments everyone else has made are accurate--its a great hotel with a few things that could improve. Overall, I'd stay there again if they offered another Living Social (which is how we found out about the place in the first place) or a Groupon.

The Pros:
Service--very friendly, they open the door for you upon arrival and were very courteous the entire stay.
Interior Decor--modern, clean, very nice.
The Bistro--the LS deal gave us two complimentary cocktail tickets. We used them on a Friday night in the bar and it was excellent. They have a late night happy hour and we also bought some delicious Lamb meatballs ($3) and fancy fries ($3). Very good. The breakfast was very good also. (more on that in the con section below)
The Bed and Shower--both very nice.
The Location--Couldn't have a better location, both on the water, right off the Morrison Bridge, and in downtown just a few blocks from all the shopping.

The Cons:
Noise--streetside rooms are pretty loud
Outdated heating system/fan--pretty loud in the room, though I did turn it on to drown out the street noise
Breakfast--I found this a little rude. The LS coupon includes breakfast, but in reality you get a $10 voucher for breakfast per person. I saw on the menu that most items were about $10 or a little more, and coffee was $3 a cup (!!!!!!). I decided to brew our coffee in the room and take it to breakfast because I didn't want to be charged $6 for coffee for both of us. This should be INCLUDED in the breakfast and the LS coupon should be more explicit in this voucher program.
Parking--About $25, a little pricey for staying at a hotel. I have stayed at hotels all over the world, and many nice places in NY, Chicago and Toronto charge $24 or a little more for parking--this place shouldn't, especially because there is ample street parking surrounding it, the only problem is that it is metered.

Overall, I'd stay there again, it was a great time.

Room Tip: Stay away from the street rooms if possible--very loud!

“Loved it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

Stayed only 1 night but should have stayed longer. Great location for walking downtown. It's an old remodeled hotel (Probably a Howard Johnsons or similar property) but now looks quite hip and modern. The price was right and the bed was comfy. Staff was friendly. There was a bar but we did not try it out

“Simply Wonderful.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

My husband and I were on a 1 night getaway with each other. Portland is much larger than the area we are from so we were excited for the experience. Upon arrival, the guy who greeted us was busy busy. He was kind, and let us know where to park and greeted us with a smile. When it came time to check in, I simply handed the man at the front desk my reservation slip and he found us right away on the computer. I had purchased a special through Groupon and was unaware I needed to bring a voucher for it to be applied to our stay. "No Problem" the guy said. He told us to get settled into our room and then kindly asked us to print it out from the business room that they have as a courtesy to their guests. I did it right away and the discount was applied. I had also opted for a room upgrade if it was available for an additional $20.00. The room we got was perfect. We got to see the river, mountain, and city all in one. The bathroom was small, but that's no biggie to us. The reason for the 4 star is the bed. It was overly firm for a hotel bed I think. All in all, this is the hotel we will continue to choose for our mini getaways.
