Arrived at front desk and was greeted with smiles and sincere conversation. Quickly checked in and they asked for a business card so that they could, as a courtesy, create a FREE laminated luggage tag for me. Room was excellent, nice decor, great space. My room was a king room with sofa and awesome view of the city. Our room faced Grand/Clackamas St. Off in the distance is a mountain range that we are told is Mt St Helens. View is beautiful when it is clear enough to view.
Location is about 3 city blocks from Convention Center/Light Rail System. Even in the rain, the walk is not bad to the Con Ctr. Hotel does offer shuttle around town but didn't use it.
Breakfast at Charley's on Grand was quite good and varied. Fresh fruits, cereals, custom omelettes, belgian waffles, breads/breakfast cakes of all kinds. My room package included breakfast which would have cost $11pp without it. Room rate was $159 for Wed night & $99 for Thurs-Sun nights.
Within blocks, is great shopping at LLoyd Center, Red Robin, Walgreen's (which is great if the weather brings on an allergy blast!) multiple fast food chains, & Starbucks. The hotel is only blocks away from the Rose Event Center too. The hotel does have an awesome "take out" coffee/tea available in the foyer during breakfast hours for those on the go. However, I do wish they would have had it available all day during cold weather with so many of us going in and out to the Convention Center in the wet/frigid temps. In room coffee pot heats a hot pot, but cannot maintain it's heat. So unless you drink it fast, you need to start over again for a second cup.
The freezone of the lightrail will open up tons of culture/food/shopping opportunities during your visit. We had one complete day of leisure and purchased a Tram/lightrail/bus/trolley pass for under $5 each and rode ALL of the trains/trolleys to the end of the line and back again for the complete experience of all sides of Portland! It was incredible to look at details that would be missed if driving in a car. If you take the blue or red line to Pioneer Square and go to the Visitors Center, they will give you the most awesome map showing things that interest you specifically and how to get there using the public transit system. The Visitor Center people are very well informed and with a few questions answered, can help customize your excursion.
If you enjoy watching TV during your down time, be aware, our room had a dinosaur of a TV! No HD and no flat screen. I would have to say... that was the only negative of the entire stay.
The hotel also has an awesome indoor pool/outdoor lounging area and workout room which we did not have time to use but others did and loved it.
The entire staff was quick to please with any requests we had, housekeeping was fast and good!!!! Overall, we found all of the staff very pleasant and customer friendly. I would recommend a stay here during your Portland trip.
