I only stayed at this motel one night to attend a class that started early in the morning. Arriving late afternoon, I had some questions about directions to my class the next day as well as dinner recommendations. I was quickly presented with a map along with directions to my class. I was also happy to learn that halfway across the street (ie, on an island in the middle of the street) was a stop for a streetcar that went directly to and around the Pearl District, which had many dinner choices. Fare for a 2-hr ticket is $1 and there are various options for all-day passes and transfers to other transit routes. If you have the time it's certainly possible to walk to the Pearl District from the hotel, however the streetcar delivered me to the district quickly, leaving plenty of time to walk around, check out restaurants and shops, and return home on the same $1 ticket. Note that you can either buy your streetcar ticket from a machine on the street with credit/debit card or onboard the streetcar using cash/coin (probably cc/dc too--not sure?). If you are returning via streetcar, be sure to board the correct line (C-line) as there is another line (N-S) that uses the same tracks in the Pearl District. One other plus was that the proprietors let me park my car for free the entire next day, after I checked out, while I attended class. Also, contrary to another traveler, I found the wifi connection excellent and used it quite a bit to download software for the class I attended. Although the motel could have been fancier, it couldn't have been more convenient for the purposes of my stay. (PS, Alas, Portland abolished the free ride zone on its transit Sept 2012.)
