Dirty, uncomfortable rooms, bathroom a mess, soap dish falling off the wall, extremely noisy with the train going by all night right outside the window, very unpleasant and nasty staff at the front desk, very bad parking situation and didn't care that their lot was full and we had to go across the street to pay to park again and our rental car got damaged!!

Booked via PL for 62$. The location is perfect, from the airport to the Convention Centre tram stop was easy. The hotel is in definite need of a face lift, check in was a bit long, by a bored attendant. The room was OK, closer to a 2* but clean, with a fridge and microwave, old CRT TV. Good bed, clean bathroom. The restaurant is pretty basic and there are various options in walking distance (Denny's, Burgerville: they have terrific burgers and good breakfast). Parking is 12$. Area becomes a bit iffy at night, with some homeless hanging around. No pool and the gym is bare bones. Still, I would be OK with this if via PL.

The location of this hotel is great if you have a convention or need to go downtown via MAX.
But don't pay full rate for this hotel if you can avoid it.
Got it on Priceline for $65/night plus $10/night parking.
The rooms are updated but the bathrooms are in need of some work.
I heard from the front desk (who are bored and don't care about things in the morning, but routine "front desk friendly" at night) that this building is around 50 some odd years old or older.
The elevators are dated, the call buttons sometimes do not work. Security cameras everywhere on the floors.

Rooms: Standard Red Lion but smallish with a King bed in the room. TV is CRT and a bit dated.
In room WIFI for free.

Bathrooms: Need help urgently. This is what makes the place worth only 2 stars.
Grout has been poorly applied, has holes in it. The seam between the two panels of wall in the bath/shower has poorly applied grout and makes things look like a poorly maintained cheap hotel. Toilet is jammed into a space between the shower/tub and sink. Shower head is nice looking but the water output is low. Plenty of hot water. Room is hot and a bit stuffy when you first arrive. Feels like an old dormitory room with steam heat, which is how the building is heated. (See photo of "temperature" control) The card says you can use a in room fan along with opening a window to cool things down, but for my room the fan was not there and had to call the front desk to get one. What 3 star hotel has you use fans for cooling the room??? What a joke!!
Curtains were a disaster. They do block the light out of the room if they don't have holes in the blackout liner from sticking to the window due to all the moisture on the window in the wet winter season. (See photos of moisture and holes in liner)

Pluses for this hotel are that it is located next to the convention center and the Max line going to town (you are in the free ride zone at the hotel when going to downtown). The Denny's across the street, a Starbucks is also in the area and Lloyd Center shopping mall is 4 blocks away. The restaurant on the outside, although recommended by the front desk is packed to the gills with a waiting line of 15 minutes or more when it is dinner time (at least on the night we were there). We ate at the burger joint inside the mall instead. There is good food for a decent price. There is a in room mini fridge and the standard laptop desk with a coffee maker on it.
There is plenty of parking on the lower level of the garage (2 stories) and easy access to it from two streets. Room service refreshes the room every day.

Cons for this place:
Dated and worn out bathroom
No individual control of heating/cooling.
Having to use a fan to cool room in a 3 star hotel is a JOKE!!!
Damp single pane windows and worn out curtain liners
King bed is really soft.
Room service is run from the restaurant (only 1 person there at night with the cook, so if you need something minor, you have to get it yourself).
Elevator call buttons broken sometimes (tell front desk and their maintenance guy will get on it)
"business center" is in the lobby and the computers are not secure and the windows desktop is cluttered with shortcuts from everyone installing junk or left over folders. I would only use this computer for printing out airplane boarding passes and general web browsing, but not email or anything else password related.

This hotel is in a great location if you are needing to be in downtown portland. We took a taxi across the river to a wedding reception and it was 10$ including tip. The room here was pretty average, a bit small if you ask me. The bathroom looked like it hadnt been upgraded in quite awhile. The shower itself had mold and mildew and was cracking. The bed as always with Red Lion was very comfortable but their pillow choice was only 1 very large size, so if you want a pillow that is really full you will love this place. We went down for breakfast in the morning and it took 40 minutes to make an eggs benedict with just eggs and avacado and 1 skillet which was just potatoes bacon and eggs. So I hope you wear your pants of patience if you want to try out the restaurant, oh there was only 1 other couple in there when we ordered so I cant even imagine what it would be like if it were "busy." All in all somewhere that I would stay again if I had something going on in the area.

I had a conference at the convention center and it was a only half a block away, makes it nice. The MAX train from the airport and to downtown, with connections all over, stops right in front of the hotel, also nice. King size beds were good, great house keeping, free wi-fi, all good things. Dennys, Burgerville, and Red Robin are less than 50 yards away. McDonalds, Walgreen, and Wendys are four blocks north, nice, safe walk. In fact the whole area seemed safe. Loyd Center Mall is four blocks east for your shopping fix. I wasn't crazy about the AC being turned off if the outside temperature is below 70, because the rooms get a little warmer, but they have in room fans to circulate the air. Kind of Mayberry-ish but its OK, (also a space heater if you want extra heat). Outsideof that quirk, this is a good place, especially for the price, I paid $120 per night, others stayed elsewhere and paid $160+. Over five nights, the difference adds up. No worrys really, its fine.

I paid 125.00 per night at this hotel. The first two nights the noise from the lounge upstairs kept me up well past midnight, the third night I moved to a different floor. The website boasts new rooms, only some have been redone. The bathrooms have new tile and granite counter tops, but the tubs and toilets are just as old as they always have been, my first room had bad caulking and mold in the tub. The new flat screen TV's don't exist and the upgraded King rooms don't have microwaves as the web site says. They do have free wifi, but it is sketchy in some rooms of the hotel, the signal was stronger across the street at Denny's. The location is great, right next to the MAX, but there are much nicer hotels along the MAX route for a much better deal. No pool or hot tub either :(
