We stayed for one night in January 2013. As it is pretty inexpensive, we didn't expect anything fancy, but we did expect clean and basic. When we arrived, we saw several flies in the window but just thought the door was left open when the room was cleaned -- but the flies kept coming (there were apparently maggots someplace in the room as we killed 15 flies that night and there were many more in the morning). We found bags of open chips and fruit peels under the bed in addition to items left behind by other guests. We reported the problem to the manager immediately and even brought some of the "left behind items" to the manager. I am not sure how fluent she was in English as she just kept shrugging and either didn't care or understand. She did not offer a different room. Also, when we first arrived, the smoke detector was beeping as the battery was low. We also reported that and the manager replaced the battery. Apparently there is no maintenance schedule in place. Overall, it is a dump. The stairs had anti-slip tracks that were peeling up. Someone tried unsuccessfully to screw them back down (but the screws were sticking up creating a trip hazard). There was a great view, but the window was very dirty and the flower boxes just outside the window were filled with dead weeds. There are lots of other lodging options in Port Orford so do yourself a favor and check them out!
