“Best fish & chips...EVER! Don't miss this special stop.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2009

Upon entering the small town of Port Oroford, OR on the beautiful southern Oregon Coast, the sign simply beckons you in...I mean, how can you pass up on NOT eating at a place with a name like this? The shanty feel of it is part of the mom & pop charm, and the numerous cars in the front indicate that it's a popular place.

Amusing names and signage aside, I was even more blown away with what was inside...yes, it's a bit small and crowded, but that's what happens to any mom & pop operation when the food rocks.

EVERYTHING in this place was unique and tasty. For starters, the salads were excellent and fresh. The cole slaw was crisp with a zip, and in a substance that was more water-based than milk-based. The pasta salad was the most interesting I can recall...it was spruced up with diced carrots, peas, and a couple other vegetables.

The main course, however, was the haymaker punch. The prawns were deep-fried but not greasy. They weren't very unique...however the fish and chips were amazing. The fish portions were generous and filling, and they were cooked perfectly. The batter was light and completely non-greasy...even the fries weren't greasy! I was convinced that the fish & chips had been baked, however when I asked the waitress she verified that they used the deep-fry method.

Having lived in maritime culture for most of my life, I've tried many fish and chips...Ivar's out of Seattle, and numerous mom & pop operations up and down the West Coast. The Crazy Norsky is the absolute best I've ever had, hands down...a close second doesn't come to mind.

If you're traveling the Oregon Coast, and only plan on going as far south as in Bandon, I'd still make a special trip down to Port Oroford to have a meal here. They're open for lunch and dinner, and I believe they stop serving at 8pm so allow enough time and get there early, and even to beat the dinner rush if you can. I noticed they also do takeout.

“LOVED this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2009

I'm from Alaska and my husband is from Maine, so we're pretty picky about seafood-- this place was fantastic! Fresh, delicious, perfectly cooked. Super nice service, fun atmosphere. I loved this place. I can't wait to make another visit to Oregon-- we will definitely be back. Definitely make a stop here.
