“Great Trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

Outstanding jet boat tour. There was 31 in our group and everyone is still talking about the trip. We started with a picnic lunch that exceeded our expectations. Mark the captain and Bill did a great job narrating and along the way. My group enjoyed going through the class 4 rapid so Mark went through it 2 times for us. Planning to go back next summer.

“Great Ride on the Snake River”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

We were visiting friends in Idaho and they lined up a two hour jet boat trip on the Snake River Rapids. The drive up the mountains was part of the adventure, and so beautiful, with the road twisting and winding along rushing streams, and over and around corners. There are great photo opportunities at every turn! It is a long drive, so be prepared with some snacks and drinks. And be aware that most of the time you won't have cell phone reception.
There is a nice visitor center and you will want to view the informational video inside. There are plenty of books and brochures available. When you proceed down to the jet boat, don't forget anything! Because you will be going down a LONG series of stairs and the trip back up is a killer! , But I believe they allow handicapped people to drive down to the boat, because I saw a couple of reserved parking spaces down below.
The jet boat tour was very exciting! Almost, but not quite scary, as we traveled up to the dam, and then turned around and proceeded on down the river through several rapid-like areas, and one "level four" rapids. We only had to wear the life jackets for the big rapids, but that was fine, since it was a pretty rough ride!
The pilot was knowledgeable and friendly and at one point we stopped and were allowed to go up the hill to a historical cabin area. Those who were wearing sandals and flip flops had a treacherous trip back down to the river, working their way down the rocks. I was a bit worried that someone was going to slide and fall, hurting themselves - but everyone made it back to the boat safely.
We went up the river as far as our tour allowed, and returned back down through the level four rapids to find three river rafting boats heading downriver on a 3 night camping/rafting excursion. Our pilot said we had a little time so we were able to watch as the group of rafters studied the rapids and then went through. There was a lead raft, loaded with supplies, the next raft had the paying guests with very bright orange life jackets, and the last raft held some supplies and the equipment to retrieve anyone who washed out of the raft ahead! It was pretty exciting to see them go through, and most of us were glad we did it in our large jet boat, powered by three big Cummins deisel engines!!
We had a great time on the river, even though some of us got wet! It was a memorable adventure, and a great day!

“Beautiful landscape but....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2012

First of all, don't get me wrong...we had a wonderful time on the river looking at the majestic and jaw dropping landscape inside Hells Canyon. The reason for the low rating is because we didn't get the trip we were sold. We booked the "Wild Mountain Sheep Tour" from a brochure we picked up in Joseph, OR. The brochure stated it was three hours, offered lunch and was $45 p/person. When we got there we were told the brochure "was way out of date" and that the actual tour was 2 hours and with no lunch but was now $60 p/person. Wait a minute...a shorter time on the river, no food yet it was now more expensive? Also, in the brochure (both the "old" and the new one) it said that we would be shown Native American pictographs and that we would venture into the deepest part of the canyon. We did neither. We didn't see any nor were any pictographs pointed out. We turned around before the deepest part of the canyon after our guide pointed ahead saying that "the deepest part of the canyon was just ahead." One more gripe...the PA system on our boat was broken so the guide had to talk and project his voice over the motor and the sound of fast moving water/rapids and a dam. At times it was difficult to hear him and we were sitting in front. Those in back said they barely heard the commentary. For international tourists (and there were two on the boat) it would have been even more difficult to understand with all the background noise.

Again, all these gripes aside we still enjoyed our time on the river and the landscape is awesome. But, I do think we were sold an excursion that we didn't get and it's only fair to share our experience for others.

, Manager at Hells Canyon Adventures, responded to this review, July 11, 2012
The staff at Hells Canyon Adventures is somewhat confused by We Love Oregon's review posting. We Love Oregon stated that they loved Hells Canyon but rated us low because he didn't get the trip he bought. It seems that We Love Oregon throught he booked a 3 hour lunch tour for $45.00. We aren't sure how you can buy a trip we haven't offered since 2007? We take all feedback we get very seriously so we we decided to contact several of our other customers who have recently on our 2 Hour Wild Sheep Tour to see if we were missing something. Since we don't have the exact date that We Love Oregon took our Wild Sheep Tour we contacted multiple customers who took Wild Sheep Tours around the time we believe We Love Oregon took his Wild Sheep Tour. We asked them if they felt the trip was worth the money they paid, all responded yes. They also knew they were receiving a Wild Sheep Tour that is approximately 2 hours in duration, give or take 15 minutes, sight-seeing stops included, no meal served, and the cost is $60 per adult. They knew that the trip would be 12 miles round trip and that they would see the deeper end of Hells Canyon. We at Hells Canyon Adventures realize that people pick up out dated brochures however all of our brochures have dates in them. We are very transparent when it comes to explaining what each tour includes and the pricing associated with each tour. We work very hard to set an appropriate expectation before our customers even set foot on our boats.

We believe if We Love Oregon had gotten our 2012 brochure he would have felt differently about the trip he took. We can only say he did get the trip that he paid for. We have an experienced crew and we know when a trip doesn't meet the expectation we set. Our crew that had been running the Wild Sheep Tours around the time we believe We Love Oregon visited Hells Canyon truly believes they gave a good tour to We Love Oregon. We know we are not perfect but at the same time we work very hard each day to make sure our customers enjoy Hells Canyon as much as we do.

“Hell's Canyon is an amazing place and what a way to see it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2012

Hell's Canyon Adventures allowed us the opportunity to do a partial day jet boat ride up the canyon from Hell's Canyon Dam. It was awesome! We saw bear, Bald Eagles, Big Horn Sheep, and gorgeous scenery! We also learned a lot of cool history from our jet boat driver, Bruce. Hell's Canyon is the deepest gorge in North America and the only way to see it is by going in it and Hell's Canyon Jet Boat rides are an amazing way to experience it if you don't have 3 or more days to raft it. I highly recommend taking a Hells Canyon Adventure jet boat ride!

“Wonderful Journey”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2012

My family went on a trip down Hells Canyon NRA on the Snake River to Wild Sheep rapids, took two hours down and back. We easily navigated the various rapids, stopped at a settlers cabin/hut, and saw wildlife along the way, including several black bears. Mark did a great job as our guide, good stories, interesting history, and very entertaining. We got the trip thru living social (like Groupon) and were treated very well even though we were the only ones on the boat that day (a Monday). Trip there from Boise was about 3.5 hours and there was no cell phone reception for the last hour, very remote! Good roads but winding and somewhat narrow. Wonderful journey with enjoyable views, fun for all ages. Recommend highly!
