Super location at Nye Beach area of Newport. Loved this restaurant. Great flavors, all organic and fresh, this place offers a little something extra for that special night out.

“Try the Duck!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

This is a restaurant with lots of fish and seafood--but don't overlook the duck! Well prepared and delicious! We shared a lovely bottle of Syrah--yummy!

My friend was celebrating her birthday and she ordered the New York steak. She requested well done. She is not unfamiliar with ordering steak in great restaurants--a chef can butterfly the steak--especially a New York or Rib Eye and it can be well done, tasty and not dry. We both said to the waitress that it would be fine to butterfly it. The FIRST time it came not butterflied and blood red inside. The SECOND time it didn't come butterflied and still pretty pink/red inside. The THIRD time it came butterflied (too late) and burned on the edges--the flavor was okay--but now with all of the attempts dry and with attitude. I don't think a restaurant like April's should ask how you want your steak cooked if they really only know how to prepare it medium rare. I didn't eat this steak--but I did observe the process and I was trying to give my friend a treat for her birthday. So, it was a disappointment to me to not provide her with a delightful dinner.

We ended with delicious dark chocolate dessert--amazing crust, creamy dense chocolate, whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

My duck dinner, the wine, and the DELISH dessert are worth a return visit. But, I won't chance celebrating any friend's birthday there again.

“Good but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

Our meal had good and bad points to it so have to rate it average. The bread was disappointing. No flavor and did not seem especially fresh. The bread was in olive oil which was also fair. My husband ordered the NY steak and was disappointed in its bland flavor and toughness even though he ordered it medium rare. The caprese salad was wonderful and would order that again as the duck breast was also really good. I ordered the cup of soup which was not very interesting and very light on the vegetables.

We decided to order wines by the glass to sample more of their wines (white with our appetizers and red with our entrees). Our wines were served in the cheapest of cheap glasses. We noticed that most of the other diners ordered wines by the bottle and they all had very nice glasses. When we asked about this, the hostess said that they did not have enough glasses to go around which struck us as very flimsy. We somehow knew that if everyone in the restaurant had ordered a bottle of wine, there would be enough glasses. It was as if they were trying to shame or embarrass us with the obviously inferior glasses. Stuff like that is very offensive to discerning customers. Hopefully they will change that. Good wine in cheap glasses spoils everything.

The ambience of the restaurant is very nice and the service was excellent. I doubt that we will return to the restaurant as our experience was marginal.

“Lovely dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

Beautifully served food with unique twists and very fresh flavors. Great for a special dinner. We got a Sat. Night reservation at the last moment so they were very accommodating.

“Amazing dinner on our last night in Newport”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

The 4 of us were lucky to get in without a reservation; didn't feel rushed at all. Our server was friendly & attentive, the food was AMAZING!!! Smoked trout, Caesar salad, bruschetta, and steamed clam appetizers were yummy as were the entrees (duck breast was especially thumbs up). Desserts disappeared quickly (brownie, creme brûlée, raspberry cream, blueberry trifle). Will definitely be back!
