“Maybe the magic is gone”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

This was our third trip to the Rogue, oddly one of the reasons we'd been coming to Newport. We were there on a Friday night about 5:00 when it wasn't too busy yet.

PROS: Server was polite. Cheese bread appetizer was good.

CONS: Our stouts tasted like they'd been diluted in the keg, sadly disappointing as we'd had a bottle back home just the night before. Major let-down. Mentioned it to the server. Would have been nice if she have gotten the manager or brew-master (who was there getting a scholarship award) and at least asked why it tasted that way. After all, this IS the Rogue, and they are theoretically showcasing their best products.

Oysters were ok; fish and chips were disappointing; the fish was luke warm, as were the fries. The cole slaw came in a medicine cup sized container, about the size of the tartar sauce. What little there was tasted unremarkable. Brownie, which was supposed to be served hot, was also luke warm.

Server forgot our water, and forgot the 2nd ale we'd ordered.

We'll likely give it one more try next time, but maybe the magic is gone.

“Best Beer in Oregon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

Rogue Ales is probably the best micro-brewery i the USA. it has won award upon award. John Maier is famous for the variety of fine beers he makes. Local folks are always alert for sales. If you go here, do not miss the Hazelnut Brown Ale and Old Crustacean barley wine.

The food is also quite good. An order of the macaroni and cheese is enough to fill an adolescent. The American Kobe beef burger is worth the investment. In general, all of the food is very goo and harmonizes with the beer.

Their brewery on the south beach side of the Yawquina river also has a restaurant, and has tours.

Beer can be bought retail at either site and t-shirts, baseball caps, etc. are available

“Worth a stop while on the Bayfront.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

We stopped in the Rogue for lunch. The sample beer is excellent. Atmosphere was average. Service was good. I had the Mahi Mahi tacos which was pretty darn tasty. My better half had the Cesear salad. Both meals had decent size portions for lunch. The homemade root beer is pretty good as well. Worth a stop to say you have been there.

“A Convivial Bayfront Saloon & Eatery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

The Rogue on the Bayfront in a convivial, unpretentious place with an upscale saloon menu and beer brewed in a Rogue operation just over the Yaquina Bay Bridge.
It's popular with tourists and is kid friendly and has a adjoining card room for the gamblers among us.
It's a fine place to relax and eat on a sunny afternoon.
Few visitors know the story behind Rogue. It's owned by Jack Joyce, who in an earlier life was as top executive at Nike until its tempremental owner, Phil Knight, cut him loose. Joyce went into the sunset with his Nike stock and Rogue was the result.
I endorse the whole operation and patronize it with some regularity.

We have been to Rogue Ale twice both times we had a great meal and the beer selection is amazing. I highly recommend trying one of the many ale's available. The service was very good.
