“Go see the Giant Octopus feeding!!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

The OSU Hatfield Science Center has everything you could ever need in an educational facility: Great information, excellent representations and examples, interactive science experiments for the kids and the crown jewel of the facility, the Giant Octopus. We watched the feeding event and it was amazing seeing such a beautiful creature stretch out its tentacles and attack its food.

“Interesting displays”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

The Marine Science center has some fish tanks, artificial tidepools, and so on, and a lot of fun, hands-in experiments on things like tsunami generation. Unfortunately, when we were there, a fair number of displays were under repair, so it was a bit forlorn. But good science, and it's free, so worth a trip.

“Great Science Center and FREE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

Everyone in our group enjoyed the Marine Science Center, and we had people ages 10 to 83! I think it is a must see in Newport. The exhibits were interesting and the octopus was fun to watch.

“Fascinating & Fun!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

We hadn't visited the Center in a few years and were very impressed with the new, to us, displays. Beginning on the grounds with the Japanese dock, waves energy buoy, and the original 2 person sub. The information given by the docents during the feedings (fish & octopus) was fascinating and fun, as were all the displays. Thanks to all the volunteers!!

“Very Interesting, close to aquarium”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

Lots of educational exhibits, and movie of the exploding whale. Donations are accepted, but admission is free. Take a walk along the estuary if you have time - easy walking and only takes about half hour at leisurely stroll.
