“Oregon Coast Aquarium & Hatfield Marine Science Center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2007

I visited here last August. I personally thought that the Marine Science Center, located a short drive from the Aquarium, was much more interesting. There were lots of marine scientists to talk with, and it was more of a "hands on" type of experience. It is also free, though donations are very much appreciated. Its former occupant, Keiko; made the OC Aquarium famous and though interesting, was not what I expected. My perspective may be somewhat jaded though, by the fact that I have been to many northwest aquariums that I think are much more interesting.

Very kid friendly, yet interesting for adults too. Several hands-on exhibits.

We had a great time, nice exhibits, wonderful walk-through shark tank and a decent place to eat also, that's rare indeed.

“Repeat Visitor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2007

We have visited twice in the past several years and had a good experience both times. The first time we went on recommendation from another traveler and we liked it so much that we returned a few years later.

The aquarium is a mix of indoor and outdoor exhibits including:

- Sandy Shores (Pier Piling Exhibit)
- Rocky Shores (Touch pool / Crashing Waves)
- Coastal Waters (Jelly Exhibit / Kelp Forest)
- Octopus Exhibit
- Sea Otters
- Aviary
- Passages of the Deep (Underwater Tunnel with viewing of Sharks & Rays)

There is a small theater where you can view related films. Restaurant & Gift Show are available.

There is also an exhibit area that changes from time to time. When we went last it was turtles & the film showing was about the plight of the large sea turtles.

The outdoor area has a rocky theme feels natural and the location of the aquarium is on the shore so you can look out into Yaquina Bay.

Sure to be enjoyed by the whole family. Remember to ask for the AAA discount :)
