“Not luxury, but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

Very friendly staff, willing to help, but should have already been on top of the problems. Hot tub was filthy, cool, jet broke... Pool was cold... Fireplace put out too much heat... Breakfast was late...

Hi Jennifer C,

Thank you for taking the time to share your opinion.
The hot tub was recently re-coated and we have a very hard-working staff that ensures the pool area is up to standards. I am sorry for the experience and I am sorry to hear you feel we did not rise to your expectations.
The temperatures of the swimming pool and the hot tub are standard, computer-regulated, at 85 and 104 respectively, which guests seem to find satisfactory. Unfortunately, a guest tore the hot tub knob out of the wall, during your stay, when trying to shut off the jets, which are on a timer. We would like to mention that we have already remedied that situation, and replaced the knob.

Whenever our guests experience an inconvenience, such as your fireplace putting out too much heat, a quick phone call to our front desk is all we need in order to address it. Our first instinct would be to advise guests to check and make sure the heater is not turned on, and to open the sliding door to your balcony, to let the Pacific Ocean breeze cool the room for a bit. At the same time, the fireplace can be turned off by one of our staff members, if need be.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience you've experienced, and we hope this won't prohibit you from visiting us again.

Thank you,
Tina Strode
Assistant General Manager

The Elizabeth Street Inn sets a new standard for the Oregon coast. The staff is wonderful (extra kudos to Beth at the front desk for a job well done) all friendly and helpful that we encountered. The rooms are well appointed, comfortable and the beds are exceptional. The ocean front veranda with unobstructed view is superb. Looking forward to returning soon.

Elizabeth Street Inn is in a great location next to the beach and about 0.5 miles walking distance from Nye Beach city center. The only objection I have is that I was rather disappointed with their "fitness center." It consists of what looks like a broken elliptical, a treadmill, and a seated bike, all crammed into a closet size rooms with no fans and windows that don't open. I guess it's running in the rain outside! Aside from that, rooms are nice and spacious and I would definitely stay again- but I would bring my outdoor running gear instead!

We enjoyed our time here. Very clean and comfortable. Nice staff, very helpful. The chowder and cookies in the evening are great when you just want a little something and don't want to go out. The breakfast is also nice to start your day, just wished it wasn't so early. I don't like to eat until about 10:00 but I know others are early risers. I can't say anything negative about this hotel except we can only afford going here when the price is lower. Can't wait until we can go back!

Room Tip: Ocean view upper floor

Just a quick update: We completed our 2nd stay at the Elizabeth St. Inn. Once again, we had a very nice experience. Friendly staff, clean and pleasant room, wonderful ocean front views and location. The complimentary (and yummy) salmon chowder each night at 5:00 p.m. is a lovely touch and the fresh cookies at 8:00 p.m. go very fast. Best of all....its pet friendly (sorry, no chows, pit bulls, or dobermans). A very good choice in Newport.

Room Tip: Only limited number of pet friendly rooms so book early.

The Elizabeth Street Inn offers spacious oceanfront rooms with private balcony and a gas fireplace with real flames. Also included are wireless internet access, a microwave, refrigerator, and large flat-screen TV with a DVD player. We enjoyed two comfortable beds (translation: mattresses are neither mushy nor rock hard), plus a couch, great water pressure, two sinks, two plushy robes and a Keurig coffee maker. Have I mentioned there is also free food involved? You can sample a bowl of smoked salmon chowder (not served in the summer months) and/or fresh baked cookies in the lobby, and don’t miss the hot breakfast buffet (sausage or bacon, eggs, biscuits & country gravy, waffles, cereal, juice, coffee, etc.) ….But, wait! There’s more! All this plus a saline swimming pool, hot tub, and up-to-date DVD rentals, too.

Our room was very quiet, no neighbor noise at all unless something heavy was dropped. The fireplace really heats up the room after a while. We slept with the balcony door open a crack…in winter! There was a blow dryer in the vanity area, but ours did not work. The sink on the left was very slow to drain, and the stopper mechanism didn’t hold in the sink on the right, but none of these minor inconveniences tarnished our stay. Many items are just a shade of quality above the norm. The towels were thicker than most, furnishings were sturdy, and beds are made with fitted bottom sheets, so the whole bed doesn’t come apart when you pull the top covers back.

Alas, we did not try the pool or Jacuzzi, and that was our loss. In early morning, the air in the pool room was warm and tropical with steam and humidity. The fitness equipment looks a bit tired, and most of the machines show heavy signs of wear. The breakfast is a tad institutional - as it must be if you’re prepared to feed the entire hotel - but free is a very good price, and we had no complaints concerning the quality of the food. Everything tasted fine and there are plenty of items and beverages to choose from. There is an elevator – one elevator – be prepared to wait a while during breakfast and checkout rushes, or use the stairs instead. The staff are helpful and accommodating. Shopping and eateries are located close by. There is also a dry parking garage, and finally, the ultimate wonder of wonders: This gem of a hotel has a limited number of pet-friendly rooms. Check their pet policy for size and breed restrictions.

My wife and I took a weekend trip down to Newport to celebrate our 30 year meeting anniversary and we stayed here. Upon arrival, they had fresh, warm chocolate chips cookies at the check-in counter. We had a 3rd floor room and each room has a balcony that overlooks the beach and ocean. I'm not certain about every room, but our room had a gas fireplace. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate on Saturday, but this is Oregon. Saturday at 5pm, they had Salmon Chowder in the lobby for anyone who wanted to warm up a bit, and it was PERFECT! There were several guests partaking in that. Sunday morning was a clear sky with only a few clouds, so my wife and I sat on the balcony and watched the world go by. Forgot to mention, a free breakfast buffet that featured Biscuits & Gravy and Belgian Waffles. I think my only complaint about this place is the elevator is quite outdated, so a little slow. I did hear that they will be updating that soon, however.
