“Wonderful, warm, welcoming B&B in wine country!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

Kristin and Curt most assuredly have a top-notch B&B high on the Chehaem Ridge overooking the Willamette Valley with the Coastal Range in the distance. From the moment we entered, we were enveoped into the inn's cozy and friendy warmth. The accomodations are spectacular: the High Desert room had a jacuzzi, plush robes, fireplace, and heaters on the large outdoor deck along with all desired ammenities. Kristin's 3-course breakfasts are glorious events where she incorporates local fruits and vegetables into her creative recipes, and adorns them with lucious homemade jelies, glazes, and marmalades.

Additionally, Kristin is very knowledgable about the local attractions and freely answers questions and shares her knowledge with her guests. One word to sum up our stay?
Delightful!

Okay so our review is very similar to Ellen from Indy. Maybe we were there around the same time. The views are as advertised, gorgeous. We spent both evenings there just sitting out on the balcony taking it all in. We stayed in the Oregon Coast room which was cozy, clean and comfortable. It was small but no complaints. The food the first morning was outstanding and the second morning just okay. Now for the not so good which solely is a reflection of Kristin the owner/inn keeper. Lets just say we never felt welcome there. From the moment we arrived and she gave us our front door (four digit) entry code which happened to be the last four of our phone. Instead of just saying your code is the last four of your phone she just rattles off the numbers and then when you fumble to write it down she makes a snide "well it should be easy enough its the last four of your phone number". Really? Sorry I've been in airports and drinking wine all day I'm not firing on all cylinders. In speaking to another couple there she played the exact same game with them when it came to their code. Maybe she thought she was being funny but she failed. Answers to questions were so short and abrupt we quit asking them. We felt more like intruders than guests. You just kind of feel like you are walking on egg shells when staying there and we were not the only ones in speaking with other guests. Now it was not enough to ruin the trip as we only saw her at breakfast and maybe briefly in the afternoon but I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending this place without first giving my thoughts about the owner. In short if you go....go for the views.

This B & B has clean, modern, romantic rooms with breath-taking views. We stayed in the Rose Garden Room, which has a great mattress, big tub, plush robes, nice décor, lovely little balcony to look at the view, everything a traveler could want.

Unfortunately, despite all the lovely aspects of the room, we did not feel welcome here. It was solely due to the owner. She was curt and rude every time we had to interact with her.

At breakfast the first morning, she first told my husband that he had to follow her rules and not read the paper at the table. When paying $300 for a place, I think we could read the paper wherever and whenever. Since we never have time to read the paper at home, you would think we could leisurely enjoy a little paper reading on our vacation. But not at Chehalem Ridge!
When I had to ask her about the time of breakfast the following morning, she was extremely annoyed that she even had to answer my question.

These and others are small things, but the tone in which she spoke was unwelcoming. She just seemed mad every time we spoke.

The following morning, the husband did all the interacting and serving of the food, while she remained in the kitchen. It was more pleasant interacting with him.

My friends have already seen our photos from this gorgeous B & B, and asked about the specifics of the place. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend them staying there, for fear they would be treated as poorly by the owner.

Seems like a waste to build such a lovely place and keep it so nice, only to be rude to the guests that stay there.

Arriving at Chehalem Ridge B&B reminded me of arriving at our Relais & Chateaux hotel for our honeymoon in Tuscany. Tucked up in the trees this beautiful property is quiet and serene. Our room, High Desert, had incredible views of the valley below. The proprietress, Kristen, is accommodating and welcoming. Her breakfasts are a serious culinary foray, but never too filling to go out and explore the valley. The room was impeccably clean, with a huge comfy bed. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Apparently not all rooms have views, so ask for one if you do want one.

Green Features: All good - the soaps and linens were all scent-free. Also, Kristen asks if you have any food allergies before preparing your breakfast.

Chahalem Ridge is a place you will want to call home away from home, it is that nice. From the moment you pull into the driveway, you are greeted with sweeping views of the valley below. The B&B is beautifully decorated and not one detail is missed to provide a comfortable and inviting experience for guests. Breakfast was served each morning on the deck overlooking wine country below; if you awake early enough, you can catch the hot air balloons flying across the sky.

Kristin's culinary skills will please even the most finicky foodie. Have a special dietary request? Not a problem, she has that all taken care of. Our room was comfortable and spacious, the jetted tub was wonderful after a long day of wine-tasting, and our bed here was the most comfortable out of our 3-week trip. Curt's advice on where to go and what to see was perfect. We can't wait to return to this wonderful B&B. We had a wonderful time meeting new people and enjoying wine with new friends.

Room Tip: We selected the Oregon Trail room. It has the upgraded mattress and does not have the attached deck...

Green Features: This B&B has a number of green practices, which is another reason why we selected it over others. Read more about them on their website as there are far too many to tell about here.

As my dear friend would say Chehalem Ridge B & B is a " can't not" - you will not be disappointed!
Amazing-- views, cozy rooms, and breakfast! Save your appetite for Kristen's fabulous breakfast. She will start you off with her wonderful homemade breads, scones, or muffins then to top them she will serve her homemade preserves and jams, and wait till you see her breakfast entrees.
My 3 night stay was with 3 friends on our 12th annual "girl trip", now I want to take my husband!

Also, Kristen had a large cookie jar always filled with HOMEMADE cookies...no frozen baked cookie dough.....real from scratch yummy cookies!
For me, the only thing I missed at Chelahem was no coffee available except at breakfast.

I spent 2 days in ‘Chahelam Ridge B&B’ with my father for a father & son week in Oregon. We picked the ‘Chahelam Ridge B&B’ due to its good critiques in trip advisor. To make it short - We were positively surprised – and confirm the high ratings.
Chahelem Ridge is located high above Newberg. It offers a most astonishing view over large parts of the Williamette Valley. Due to its secluded location you can experience a stay in the nature.
We had the ‘Oregon Coast’ Room on the ground floor – the room is tastefully decorated with the aforementioned view, separate terrace and open fire. Most surprising I found the bathroom - also tastefully decorated with many intelligent features. I not recall having ever seen in my life a guest room that nice and yet fully functional for wheel chair access.
The highlight of the house is the Innkeeper ‘Kristin’. From the moment that we entered her place we were welcomed like friends from school. Her charm and her great breakfast facilitates the interaction between the guests. Apart from that you can trust the tips and the honest critique of Kristin.
We wish Kristin and partner Curt good luck with their future ventures. Michael & Ulf
