“For Newberg...Good.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2015

The Good: Beer, ales, etc. With all due respect to those who call Newberg home, this is not a city with quality watering holes. So the fact that there is even a brewery has to be viewed as an aberration. But it's not, because for those of you familiar with Oregon know that there seems to be some unwritten state law mandating a brewery in any community with more than 10,000 citizens. Chehalem Valley fulfills that obligation, and does so with gusto. Try their IPA's.

The Bad: Little food. True, they are a tasting room. But still. It is only the lack of a true variety like you'll find in other brew pubs that prevents me from giving this place a higher rating. I like to camp out at a brewery for sporting events. Here, you can do a half.

The Ugly: The location. Oh how they would benefit from a spot that one can access from both sides of the street. You pretty much have to be driving south into Newberg to get in here without a hassle. It can be done when driving north, but not during heavy traffic.

“Good burgers, good beer.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2015

We tried this place with an Amazon Local coupon. It's a little hard to see from the highway, But it's back behind Ye Olde Pizza. The restaurant decor is somewhat Spartan. Not very welcoming or interesting. They had several TVs with sports. It seemed a little cold to me, and I'm not someone who gets cold easily.

We looked at the beer menu, my wife was disappointed that they only had 2 wines available, which is a little odd in the middle of wine country. There was a Pinot for $9, and a white for $7. She ordered the white and said it was good wine. They brew their own beers, and there are about 15 or so available. The waiter was very friendly, and brought me several tasters to try the beer. I thought all of them were good. I ended up going with the Hef, which was a nice full flavored beer. All the pints were $5.

For dinner, I ordered the Green Chile Burger. It was very good, and had a nice thick patty that tasted like ground sirloin. It came with fries, which were good, and it cost around $11. My wife ordered the Brisket Sandwich, which was one of the more expensive items on the menu at around $14. Neither of us cared for the sandwich. The meat was a little tough, and gristly, and overall the sandwich was very bland. She substituted a salad with blue cheese dressing instead of fries. She said the salad was good.

Overall, a mixed bag. Good burger, not so good sandwich. Good beers, good service. Uninspiring atmosphere. A little expensive for a burger and sandwich menu. I would probably give it a 3 1/2 if that were an option. It's a little better than "average" but not "very good", so I can't give it a 4.

Like another reviewer wrote, I wouldn't drive out of my way to go here, but if I just want a good beer and am in the neighborhood, I might go back.

“Average at best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2015

This place has a lot of potential, but the poor waitress service pretty much dictates the quality of the experience. The beer is pretty good, and the food consists of the basic hamburger style pub food. This is not a bad place to go if you're in the area, but definitely not any place worth going out of you're way for.

“Another Great Food Choice for Newberg!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2014

Great beer selection and the food is some of the best we have had. Thought we would miss the pizza delivered from next door. We love the fries, burgers, fish tacos and more. Love sitting outside on the patio and each week they have live music. Best fries in town and the bacon burger is awesome.

“ok Just at best”

Good selection of beer, just started selling food. I don't care for burnt fries. Waitress service is bad.
