“Nice but why go there?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2010

Some investors paid alot of money to build this property. The room we stayed in (a deluxe king suite) was very nice -- spacious, very large bathroom, comfortable bed, etc. The inn and spa bills itself as in Oregon's wine country but it's just off the main highway and is actually more like a suburban development. You won't be surrounded by vineyards, rolling hills, and bucolic scenes. The property contains some gardens and trails but these are all brand new as part of the development. One can't help but feel that it's all a bit false and pretentious. There are many other more scenic areas in this part of Oregon. We had dinner in the restaurant -- wouldn't recommend it, given far better choices in the area, including Tina's and Joel Palmer House.

Thank you so much for your review! It's always interesting to read people's advice and thoughts on how we are operating, and what we are. It's important... it keeps us humble & keeps us aware... but it's also fun to see the help and power of these reviews on our community.

It's true that locals will have many places throughout Oregon to enjoy and celebrate - it's a beautiful state with endless scenery, hidden gems, and longtime personal hideaways (I know I have many of my own). However, a lot of of our guests are from wine growing regions in Australia, Germany, France, or Italy, as well as New Yorkers or San Francisco foodies that tire of Napa and the traffic jams. It's truly the first time in Oregon's history there has been something on par with the fabulous wine we produce, and the worldwide interest in how we make our stunning Pinots. Our neighbor hotels are wonderful, but not always what people wanted when staying in wine country for a gastronomic and oenophile weekend. We are proud to be the first and only option in the state of Oregon that opens up Willamette Valley to the entire world, and gives a world class option that can showcase how special a region we are.

Yes... there are many wonderful places to go besides the Allison for people that live in Oregon. But for those who are not lucky enough to live in and celebrate the Willamette Valley, The Allison will be a phenomenal opportunity to explore the places many of us take for granted. Even if you don't wish to explore, we can bring the wine-makers to you, as you stare out at the vineyards on our property.

Thank you so much for your review... the time you took to share your thoughts means a lot to us, and we know it will have an impact on future guests.

Sincerely,
Michael | Online Concierge

My wife and I are fortunate to have traveled to many fine resorts, none better than the Allison. The Ritz Carlton in Batchelor's Gulch (Vail) maybe the closest in comparison. The setting is spectacular, smack in the middle of the Willamette wine country surrounded by it's own vineyard. The attractive and helpful staff, magnificent decor, spacious rooms, wonderful cuisine, warm and inviting ambience, superb health club and spa, what's not to like?!

We only wished we had stayed another night. Congrats to the Austin's for creating such a gem. We'll be back and will bring a host of friends.

We truly appreciate the Austins, and what they have done for the surrounding community. We hope to be a shining light for the entire Oregon wine & travel industry, helping to highlight these amazing grapes and winemakers.. and The Austins made it possible. Thank you for mentioning them. They truly made a beautiful hotel.

We also thank you for the kind words about the people in it, and what we do. We read all of these reviews, and love to celebrate a job well done. There is nothing more gratifying than seeing people we have reached and helped make happy, or helped to enjoy their lives a little more... and it's an energy that we hope our guests take with them when they go back home. Whether it's a recipe idea from a JORY dish, a technique for relaxing learnt at the spa, or maybe a design idea for your home.... we love to be involved with people's lives and improving them with the experiences they can have at our little inn!

So thank you again... we enjoyed your review very much, and cannot wait to see you again... for a little longer next time! =)

Be well!

Sincerely,
Michael | Online Concierge

Stayed 4 nights. Centrally located in wine country. Inn is modern and new and the staff are enthusiastic. The terrace for an after dinner drink by the fire pit was lovely. We had requested a quiet room on the top floor and were put in a corner suite that had zero noise from outside, the hall or (obviously) above. The Inn is located in a rather stark area that is apparently going to be built up with high end shopping. I think it was the nicest accommodation available in the area. The restaurant has a ways to go in terms of food and service, but we had a nice meal. There was a wine tasting in the lounge prior to dinner which was fun. The Inn front desk staff were always a little clueless about the surrounding area and had to look up basic addresses and directions. The concierge was nowhere to be found the entire time we were there. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our stay and would go back

Thank you so much for your review! We really love to hear about people that stay for a few extra nights... it truly helps you to soak up the Valley, and the peacefulness of the surrounding area. The way the hotel was built accentuates comfort and peace as often as possible. We're happy you found your room to be that way.

Both our desk and Jory have come a long way since your review, and if you ever happen to join us again you will be quite pleased. We are still a young hotel, and we might venture to say a little before it's time. The Willamette Valley is like Napa 60 years ago, and we hope that it will stay that way. But we are constantly striving for world class service, and are learning from listening to grow into it. With some of the recognition we have gotten lately, you can tell that trend is obviously up, and the future of what it means to "escape" and relax in luxury will be synonymous with Oregon Wine Country.

I will pass along your review to our Rooms Director, who will verify that the issue with the desk staff and awareness of our surroundings has been resolved. They have spent much of the last few months retraining staff, so I am sure you will be delighted upon your return.

Thank you again, and I hope this finds you happy in this new year! Cheers, and be well!

Sincerely,
Michael | Online Concierge

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and can't wait to return. This was one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at. It rivaled the new Four Seasons in Seattle. The hotel was gorgeous and very well thought out. Our room was very comfortable with a great bathroom, nice toiletries and a super comfortable bed. The small deck was very nice. Had a great pedicure at the spa which was reasonable ($60) for the setting. Restaurant was good, brunch was fabulous. Only minor criticism: staff could have a better command of local wineries and directions to them. The map that is provided is very confusing.

We truly appreciate your review. Although it's tempered with incredibly kind words, your comment about the wineries is taken to heart. It's what is so special about the Willamette Valley, and the main reason people come to see us - because they really want to see these unbelievable masters of terroir! That being said, we will make sure to review the available maps and make sure everyone is on the same page with directions and options.

Beyond that, your review was fantastic, and we appreciate the input! We're pleased we made you comfortable... it's our goal to have you walk away and not be able to find a more relaxing place, we hope, anywhere in the world!

We hope this finds you well, and thank you again!

We were at Allison Inn and Spa during memorial day weekend for the annual wine festivals. The pinot noirs did not disappoint thanks to the recommendations made by one of the hotel managers. The service was without reproach in this comfortable and well appointed facility. The food and wine selections were excellent. Due to the high volume, there was a bit of a wait, but the food was well worth it. The staff was attentive and quite accommodating, making last minute changes to our restaurant reservations and following up to ensure that their recommendations met our needs. Excellent recommendation for Painted Lady- a locovoric farm to table experience that was lip-smacking good, but disappointing experience at the Dundee Bistro- less interesting options, average fares. The bed was comfortable and the room was modern and luxurious.

Rest and relaxation is all we ever hoped to provide, and the time you took in sharing your experience, thoughts, and review is so meaningful - we truly appreciate it. Your review will speak to people for many years to come and it's impact will be obvious. For those searching simple, real relaxation, and a way to recharge, reconnect, and reboot from the hectic pace of life... we like to think we are the right place to be. Thank you for confirming that.

We noted your helpful comments in August, and albeit it took a bit to reply, we are happy to say there are some changes in the restaurant with tables, servers, and sections that have really sped up our attentiveness and any previous longer than average wait times. Next time you visit, I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

What's more, never hesitate to reach out to me, or while on property speak with our concierge - and we can fill you in on all the festivals, events, wine tastings, performances, and more. The Willamette Valley is a sleepy place, and a great place to relax - but when it comes to food, wine, and fun - there is always something going on.

Thank you again, and we hope this finds you well.

Sincerely,
Michael | Online Concierge

All right, this place is truly spectacular. I travel nearly every week for work (this was a vacation trip) and so far I have never felt compelled to write a review of a hotel. Once you find the place you will never want to leave (finding the secluded location is no easy feat if you don't write down the directions from the web site. My GPS had never heard of the brand new street).

Arrival: The staff is among the friendliest I have ever encountered at a hotel. From the endlessly smiling front door guy Tim to the uber helpful people at the front desk, they truly seem to enjoy working here and they want nothing more than to ensure that their guests have a wonderful stay. Spectacular and not overbearing.

The Spa: Holy crap. this place is awesome. I had a massage there immediately after checking in and the spa facilities rock and the staff is the best ever (it is apparently the only destination spa in this part of the Northwest so they were able to hand pick the very best masseuses and masseurs). Arrive early, take your time and enjoy the amenities.

The Pool/Jacuzzi: It is a glassed in, indoor pool area that feels like it is outside because of a big wall of doors that opens up in nice weather. Apparently they have cool summers in Oregon (it was a very hot week when we were there) so it wouldn't make much sense to have and outdoor pool but there are lounge chairs outside. The pool itself is a cool infinity pool and the jacuzzi is very nice. When we were there we never saw screaming kids in the pool, which was nice.

The Rooms: OMG the rooms are spectacular. I had a corner room on the third floor. The website does not do Justice to the rooms (in fact the website kinda sucks). There is a large seating area, a fridge, a huge bathroom with a giant soaking tub, beautiful shower and great bath amenities, fluffy towels, soft robes and more. There are windows all around this corner room with a beautiful view. My favorite part of the room? the electric shades on all of the windows, one for blackout and one for privacy. I felt like a kid playing with them.
HINT: The room types are totally difficult to understand when looking at the website. I think my room was called King Deluxe Corner or something. There was a spa deluxe corner available and a penthouse deluxe corner available. The only difference between these rooms is the floor that they are on. The spa room is on the same floor as the spa. My room was on the same floor as the front desk (yet it is the third floor of the back of the building). The view gets slightly better as you move up, but don't let the word "penthouse" fool ya - just look at the room type and maybe call the hotel for help when choosing a room, but the corner room was definitely worth the extra $30 or so.

Jory's restaurant: Awesome food, fantastic wine list (you are in Oregon wine country after all), incredibly helpful server and sommolier (or he may have been the general manager). There are a lot of good food choices in the area, but this was our best meal of the trip. Even the bartenders are great. At least make the time to sit at the beautiful bar and have a drink if you don't want to splurge and eat at the restaurant.

If you are visiting Oregon wine country, you simply must stay here. If you made reservations someplace else, change them. If the Allison is sold out when you want to come, change the dates of your trip. Can I be any more clear?

I am thrilled to reply to your review. Albeit a bit since you posted, I am happy to let you know we have passed this around to all departments and constantly celebrated it. We deeply appreciate all reviews and everyone's input, but every once in awhile someone takes the time to really review our property, and cover all the bases. Your review will truly inform people who wish to know everything about our property, and it will have great impact and reach. This review will exist for a long time and be read by many people, so it is important for us to thank you and let you know how much we appreciate it. We basically want to alert other TripAdvisor review readers that the info and tips inside your review are stellar - and we really hope to impact every guest the way we did with you.

An added note: our GPS listing from TeleAtlas that feeds into Google Maps, Earth, GPS systems and more... should all be up to date and fixed. It never hurts to check ahead, but you can always call us and we are happy to guide your way.

You last comments are some of the finest compliments we've ever received, but you don't need to change *all* your plans to stay with us. At least, we just hope we're in your plans. With a review as helpful and thoughtful as yours, I am sure it will reach people before it's too late. =)
