“Like Being In Another World!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2010

Once we pulled up to the Allison Inn, it was literally like being in another world! The outside of the property is beautiful and surrounded by trees and vineyards. The design of the building with the fountains, water features, etc. is very contemporary and classy. Once inside the lobby the eye candy continues! There is a beautiful spiral staircase and the lobby and reception areas are gorgeous and comfortalbe with comfy couches and chairs and a pretty fireplace.

Our room was on the spa level and was gorgeous! The shades are remote conrtrolled for the windows and we had a window seat that looked out into the vineyards which was nice for reading. Also, a really comfy gold throw to cover up with since it was chilly in the evening with the windows open. The bed was very comfortable with duvets and very soft sheets and lots of down pillows. The bathroom had a pretty soaking tub with spacious contertops and beautiful hardware.

The indoor pool and jacuzzi area is also visually stunning. I enjoyed swims in the evening and the next morning after breakfast at Jory. There is also a spa and hair salon at this property. I loved the way the pool area contineued outside where there were lounge chairs set up that looked out to the vineyards. We found everyone we encountered during our stay to be very helpful, professional and polite. We enjoyed chatting with our server at breakfast about the history of the hotel and the area. This is a "green" hotel and the rooms are stocked with glass water bottles instead of plastic ones which was really cool.

The restaurant, Jory was wonderful! We enjoyed appetizers out on the terrace upon arrival with a flight of Pinot Noir, dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. It is totally up there with places we have visited in Napa Valley and Sonoma in the Ca wine country. I have nothing but wonderful memories of our short stay here. We will definitely return again and again. If you are looking for luxulry accomodations in the Oregon Wine Country look no further than the Allison Inn & Spa. ,

We cannot tell you how much we appreciate your photos! Beyond the SPECTACULAR review, your personal photos add a completely new dimension for future guests to see what we are all about. Some hotels will project an almost impossible image of their rooms, property, and facilities at their pristine best - which can sometimes be a let down when reality hits at check in time. We are confident, however, that our guests will constantly capture the reality of The Allison, and just how immaculate, warm, inviting, and beautiful we are. Real guest photos aren't as beautiful as the ones in our catalogue, but there is a trust, and realness to them that cannot be doctored. It's in those photos you will find the truth of how a hotel operates and comports itself. We think it will only serve to bolster our reputation!

What's more, you mention a very specific aspect of our building and design... flow. The continuity from space to space should create an overall impression of calm, and let you truly melt into relaxing, whether in your room, our JORY bar and lounge, or in the spa and pool area. It means a lot to us that you notice how thoughtful we were in creating your experience! We also really appreciate the time you took in writing a review. It helps us so much... and we can't thank you enough.

We hope to see you soon, and that this finds you well!

Sincerely,
Michael | Online Concierge

Gorgeous 5 star property. Large spacious luxury appointed rooms with double sinks in bath. World class spa. Gourmet restaurant on premises, Jory. Impeccable service. Oregon wine tasting at your fingertips. Also recommend Painted Lady restaurant in Newberg.

Thank you for your review, and for noting something we forget to mention because it seems so obvious... GregGlenda is completely correct - there are about 250 world class wineries within a short drive of our hotel. The amount of options for tasting and the true experience of real operating vineyards is all around you. If you aren't sure how to start, try one of our exceptionally paired flights at our JORY bar - we have some great options to introduce a new fan to all this area has to offer. Check with Tom Bean, our sommelier, about special wines, current offerings and trends in the valley wine business, or talk with our concierge about different options for tastings and beautiful, bucolic country road days of picnics and simple living! Other local restaurants that are always being talked about definitely include the Painted Lady, as well as the Joel Palmer House. After JORY, those are not to be missed!

Thank you for your review, and we hope this finds you well.

Sincerely,

The Allison Inn and Spa is a beautiful property. It is very high-end modern, brand new and impeccably clean. The rooms are huge and contain very comfortable beds, a nice window seat which is a big as a sofa, comfy chair in front of fireplace, a table and chairs and a wet bar. I didn’t realize the size of the rooms when I looked at the website. The website is deceiving. The rooms are gorgeous. The bathroom is wonderful as well. Huge soaking tub, separate glass shower, separate toilet room and 2 sinks. Our room was on the bottom level- this was nice because it opened onto a little terrace with chairs to sit and enjoy the garden view. The garden and landscaping is very nice- sophisticated design. There is a great indoor pool (again good size) and hot tub . Nice artwork in pool area. Huge wooden loungers with very comfy cushions inside by the pool and outside in the garden. Plenty of umbrellas outside to get some shade if needed. I’m sure that isn’t usually an issue, but when we were there it was 90+ degrees with scorching sun. We didn’t eat at the restaurant but the bar menu was not great. No healthy and very few veggie options. Expected it to be fresher and more local what with all the farms in the area. Breakfast was good, however. We had brioche French toast with fresh berries and pears. Coffee came in its own press pot and was tasty and strong.

Highly recommend this property for a fun, luxurious getaway. Forget to mention another cool feature of the room- motorized shade on the window. Just press a button and you are ready for bed! Turndown service was a plus as well. Staff was super friendly and not at all pretentious which is so often the case at hotels this nice. They were professional and proud of their beautiful work location and made you feel very welcome.

We enjoyed your review, and really appreciated it! The thorough description of the rooms touched on a very valid point... our website *IS* limiting with pictures of the rooms! Since your review, we have gone into action on a couple things. First, we are updating the photography of our beautiful rooms. Since opening, we have taken a couple photos, but have decided to do a full "shoot". We are also talking with Sunny, our chef, about adding a few healthy items to that bar menu. Vegetarian shouldn't just be our delicious, mouth watering, but less than health conscious, Truffled mac and cheese. =)

You have valid points and we are thrilled you shared them with us.

We are pleased you had such a wonderful time, and very pleased you noted the genuine, earnest attitude of our employees. Providing exceptional service does not mean we can't be ourselves! It's important to us, and we're glad you could tell.

Cheers and be well!

Sincerely,

My wife and I recently spent a weekend at the hotel and touring wine country. I found that the service exceeded our experiences at the Danieli, the Waldorf-Astoria and Four Seasons. The room was great, very clean and comforatable. I usually get up between 6 & 7 and was suprised to find myself at 10:00 still in bed...too comfortable! Francis, Matt and the rest of the staff were all very well trained and extreemly helpful without being pushy. The resturant staff responded with the speed of a SWAT team to the arival of two extra guests while sitting on the patio, adding what we needed for them. Perhaps the best in Oregon!

We cannot thank you enough for sharing your words, your experience, and your review! What's more, I will be delighted to share your comments with our staff about their job well done. It means quite a lot to us...

It is my duty, however, to apologize for the remarkable comfort of our beds. =) It is a happy apology to have to make. They are actually something we needed to make available for purchase, because it changed enough people's lives. So I don't blame you for getting the extra shut eye. Those beds are fantastic!

To be named along side the world class hotels you mentioned is an honor. We strive to be on the world stage of high end eco hotels and resorts; our community and home is Willamette Valley, and Oregon as a whole, but we hope to be a shining light for the area that reaches the world over. For you to compare us to those hotels is exciting and means we are headed in the right direction.

Thank you so much for your thoughts. Don't hesitate to contact me if you ever have any more questions or comments. We hope this find you well, and hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,

Michael | Online Concierge

We loved our stay at the Allison. The staff is exceedingly friendly, from our bellman, a lovely young Kenyan man, to Denise, the helpful concierge. Our main floor room at the end of the hallway was nothing short of luxurious - wonderful king-sized bdg with great pillows, fabulous fireplace, window seat and great balcony overlooking the gardens and pool - and pine covered mountains in the distance. The bathroom is also enormous and lovely, with a giant tub with a moveable screen into the living/sleeping area and separate shower and toilet with a door. The free wireless is much appreciated. As well, the inn itself is a design wonder - LEED certified, and truly extraordinary! Finally, the spa is AMAZING - the 90 minute spa with AJ was fantastic! Close to al the wineries and Portland....highly recommend the Allison. We will return.

Good day and THANK YOU! We love reading reviews, but the ones that actually mention our employees are a rare treat. Everything you mention about our amenities is spot on, and something we are really proud of... pillows and bedding, the fireplaces, balconies and the overall aesthetic of the rooms with our stunning bathrooms, and the overall beauty of the building itself! Our architects and the team that put us together are unbelievable... but our real strength lies in our employees. Our staff brings The Allison to life, populates it with enthusiasm, joy, warmth, and hospitality. Our team is so proud of what they have a chance to do, and we strive to be noticed. Thank you for recognizing this - relating your experience to others helps us more than you know!

We hope this finds you well, and cannot wait to see you again. Be well!

One word - Fantastic. Spent 4 days here as part of my 40th birthday treat to myself and my partner. After a brief 3 day stay in Portland, at the Hotel DeLuxe - (yes my dear fans and readers I did post a review about that hotel as well), I thought spending my actual day of my birthday at The Allison would be a good idea. It was a great idea!

From the moment one pulls up, you know you have arrived as a special guest. The grounds of the spa are glorious. Vineyards surround you...as do soothing waterfalls, and lush herb-flower gardens.

Our room, a deluxe terrace level was wonderful. The bed was above par. The bathroom was fantastic. The fact there were full size containers of shampoo, conditioner, and liquid soap was a huge plus for me. The gas fireplace - great! Believe it or not we used it on several occasions at night and in the morning to chase the chill away.

When we walked into our room, chocolates and a hand written birthday card were waiting for me. Nice touch! Also, loved that were bottles of water provided in the mini fridge at no extra cost.

The staff and food at the hotel dining room - top notch. Breakfast is a definite must! The jazz in the evenings at the bar - a great way to jump start your night on the town. The bar makes a great martini!

The spa - a must! I had a 2 hour deep tissue massage on my birthday, and it was heaven. Splurge and do it!

The staff overall - very attentive, especially the doormen. Housekeeping was tremendous as well. Thank-you all for a lovely stay in Oregon's wine country. The boys from Atlanta will be back!

Two words: Thank you. In fact, we might go beyond those two words, because the kind of sentiment you shared, and the time you took to do so, means a lot to us. We have found TripAdvisor's new communication tool to be an incredible and humbling experience... both in how we learn and grow as a management team and hotel; as well as reading how we have effected people's getaways & vacations, or even affected relationships & lives. Our whole "raison d'être" is to cultivate an experience that you can carry with you; one which positively affects and soothes you, even after you have left. It's a delight to read that we helped you find that state, just as it was a treat to read your rollicking review. It was so fun! =)

One thing I don't mind noting are the "green" aspects you mentioned. The idea of being green shouldn't be marketing, it should just be normal operations. It's good for guests, as well as the planet. There will be a point when we don't have to point out these environmental initiatives, simply because everyone will be doing them!

Those full sized containers of shower products are an innovation for our industry, and you will see more and more hotels adopting the idea. It actually led to a point on our LEED Gold accreditation, simply because we are saving the thousands upon thousands of mini-bottles we otherwise would have thrown away. Not only that, our drinking water is filtered in the rooms, and those bottles are deep cleaned and recapped daily - all without the use of any plastic bottles. It's a joy to have those projects recognized as nuances and special amenities, while still doing a bit of good all around us!

You can rest assured that we are doing everything we can to make your stay less impacting on the environment, but more impacting on you.

Thank you again, and Happy "Post" Birthday to you, as well.

Sincerely,
Michael | Online Concierge

We were very impressed with the furnishings, the food, and the lovely gardens and vineyards which we wandered around with our toddler. The pool was also gorgeous, partially enclosed. I only wish it were heated. If we lived closer, we would surely return!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, share your experience, and help the other travelers! We love that you mentioned our gardens - there are so many small surprises, storied moments, and wonderful treats that are in store for our guests, and at times we become overwhelmed trying too convey them all! This medium helps to pin point special aspects of our hotel, and even helps us grow with advice and suggestions for improvement.

In your case, it's time to celebrate our beautiful gardens! I will make sure we have photos available on this site, but the gardens and vineyard are ever changing spectacles for quiet exploration or a romantic stroll. It is one of the reasons people get lost at the Allison; rolling hills fading into the distance, beautiful views that rival the French countryside.... it quickly becomes difficult to find an excuse to go anywhere.

Not only are they beautiful, but they are practical as well; we have our chef's with their own patch, growing vegetables that walk no more than a few feet to the table. It adds a dynamic to the food that provides a better experience, as well as a deeper connection to the earth that provides all this for us to enjoy.

It's good to get back to our "roots", so to speak. =)

Thank you so much for your words. They help other reviewers a lot, and it's a wonderful treat to share with everyone here. We hope this finds you well, and thank you again.

Sincerely,
