“A gem of Oregon wine country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

This was a very modern and intimate hotel, the hotel was fully booked this past weekend (July 12-14) but you couldn't even tell. Quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The fitness facilities are top of the line with a kinesis system in the gym. The staff at the hotel, were the most professional staff I have ever encountered at a hotel (comparable to four seasons and the fair mount). The food at the restaurant was impeccable and fresh, halibut cheeks and truffle cheese..just to name a few bites.
Great experience and we will return. Thank you to all the staff at The Allison Inn & Spa.

Your review is wonderful! Not just because you were kind enough to share your experience, and paint a wonderful picture of our inn... but you inform potential guests of a very important point: quiet. When we built the property, we knew that acoustics in the public areas, and especially for the guest rooms, was of paramount concern. To feel world's away, and take advantage of the decompressing calm of bucolic Willamette Valley, you want to know you can sleep and relax in peace. We were successful at creating this atmosphere, and your review is a testament to that. To be fully booked, and still feel like it's your own private & relaxed escape, is incredible feedback. Thank you for taking the time to write a review. What's more, you informed me about our halibut cheeks! They are my favorite, and I wasn't aware we had them on the menu. Cheers to that, and to you! Thank you again, and we do hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,
Michael | Online Concierge

We live near the Allison, and have eaten at Jory many times, which is excellent. In honor of our 35th wedding anniversary, we decided to splurge for a stay at the hotel.

When we first arrived, our room wasn't quite ready, and before we could say a word, they offered us free drinks in the bar. We had no sooner ordered the drinks than the receptionist came to inform us that the room was indeed ready, but that we should enjoy our drinks anyway. The beverages were delicious, and came with excellent house-roasted hazelnuts, a local specialty.

After our drinks we went to our room. In honor of our anniversary, they gave us an upgrade to a penthouse room, and a complimentary bottle of chilled wine was waiting for us! The room was spectacular. The hotel clearly has thought of everything, and has the money and imagination to make it happen. The design, colors, amenities and view are unsurpassed. Our room included a huge two-person tub with ample hot water, electrically-operated window shades, a comfy window seat, and luxurious bedding with tons of pillows. If I have one tiny quibble, I would say that the bathroom lighting is a little dim; I hate to even mention it.

Everyone in the hotel knew it was our anniversary. The receptionist at the front desk, parking staff, restaurant hostess and servers, and server in the bar wished us a "Happy Anniversary!" even though we never told them who we were or why we were there. And yet we never felt like anyone was hovering over us. Incredible.

When approaching the hotel you will be sure that you have turned the wrong way, as you turn at a Shari's Restaurant off dreary Highway 99W. However, drive about a half-mile, and you are suddenly in the verdant hills of the Yamhill Valley wine country. You will be within an easy 15-minute drive of many excellent wineries; I suggest going out Highway 240 toward Carlton to explore. When you return to the hotel after a wine adventure, the parking staff will whisk away your wine to a proper temperature-controlled storage unit for you!

We have been blessed to travel quite a bit in our 35 years. The hotel is very expensive, especially by Oregon standards. No matter; stay at the Allison. You will be glad you did.

Room Tip: Request a south-facing room, on the opposite side of the hotel from the entrance. The view is much b...

Congratulations on your 35th! It's all too rare, and incredibly special. We're honored you would choose to stay with us - we know there are many incredible options!

I would also like to thank you for your review... it's incredible to read the impact we can have on people, and the place we have in people's hearts. It's an honor to be chosen for special events, and to continue to impress people, we know we have to constantly improve. Part of that is listening to feedback from guests like yourself. It's a wonderful aspect about social media, and it's an important addition in becoming a successfully managed hotel. For example, we have heard loud and clear about the bathroom lighting, and you should never fret to mention it. We are currently researching options for making it brighter, and more conducive for getting ready. Thank you for mentioning it!

Your kind words are wonderful, and we deeply appreciate the time you took to share your experience. You help remind people that we are one of the finest resorts in the United States, while still being a value; we are far less expensive than other comparable resorts. We can be a bit pricier than other Oregon properties, you are correct - but our hope is that we end up talked about worldwide... not just Oregon. We think the world needs to understand and experience the true Oregon Hospitality, as you did! =)

Thank you again, happy anniversary, and we hope this finds you well!

Sincerely,
Michael | Online Concierge

Probably the nicest hotel room I've seen in Oregon! I have no idea how much it cost, since I was tagging along on hubby's business trip. From the push-button window blinds to the deep soaking tub complete with Dead Sea Bath Salts, the room screamed luxury. The tap at the wet bar dispenses filtered water (!!!), and the staff fills a glass beaker with the water and tucks it into the fridge. At turn-down time, they place the beaker of water at your bedside. There's a sliding screen between the soaking tub and sleeping area, so you can slide open the screen and watch TV while bathing. The room was large and I never heard a peep from neighbors. The setting, among grape vines, was peaceful. Ahhhhh.... The valet parking was complimentary, but still be prepared to shell out tips to the valets and bell staff.

The Allison Inn in Newberg, Oregon, is the perfect destination for a relaxing weekend or a visit to Oregon's wine country. It is elegant, friendly, and gorgeous.

We were here three nights in early July. Surpassed our expectations. At first, a little put off that it was fairly close to the main road but once we figured out the wine country, it seemed an oasis that we almost couldn't leave. Everything was beautifully done. The service was outstanding but not overbearing. Nice touches everywhere. The rooms were awesome. The pool, spa, workout facilities were perfect. The breakfasts were excellent and we ate one dinner there and it was superb. Everything was great. They have an arrangement with Lexus that you can borrow a car to test drive for half a day. A great idea as we are interested in a new car and tried out the GS hybrid. Nice touch. Ideally, the cars would be washed every day but this is a minor issue. The only other minor issue is it would have been nice to have the New York Times or Wall Street Journal as opposed to the Oregonian which was only available in the restaurant. Nice to have a national newspaper to read daily when away. Would highly recommend and this shows it makes no sense to drive back and forth from Portland to check out the wine country when this type of resort is available. You leave feeling spoiled.

I've stayed here twice: last fall and the summer of 2012. If you are looking for a peaceful, romantic setting, top shelf service and food, and the most comfortable room in Oregon, look no further. It doesn't come inexpensively but your stress will melt away and you won't regret the time spent here. Don't miss a visit to the spa and pool. Sample wonderful, locally sourced meals in the Jory Restaurant. Kick back on the outdoor patio after dinner and chat with friends around a roaring fire in a comfy chair. Fill the tub up with bath salts and soak in the perfectly designed bath facilities with music playing from your Ipod peeking through the sliding window between bedroom and bathroom. Doesn't that sound like a perfect day??? It really is. I can't wait to get back there!!! Thanks Allison Inn.

Spent a weekend celebrating a special occasion at the Allison on the recommendation of a friend. The hotel rooms, common areas, grounds are all absolutely top notch. Very attentive guest services (front desk, valet, wait staff). Both me and my wife used the spa as well which was probably one of the best spa experiences I have had in the US (incl. Hawaii, California etc.).

My only quibble was the fact that after being gone 6 hours during the day wine tasting and getting back at about 5 pm housekeeping had still not made up our room. They responded immediately after we called and cleaned the room quietly and efficiently.

We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the newberg side of the hotel if you can to enjoy the spectacular vistas

Thank you so much for your kind words! Your comments about the spa are certainly welcome, as well.... our guests are starting to tell us wonderful things about our spa in relation to other resorts around the US. It's a treat for us to be recognized for providing exeptional service, especially considering some of the other properties our guests travel to! But your words are a joy to read, and I will make sure to pass along the kind words to our spa staff.

I do want to apologize for the housekeeping gaffe. It's certainly atypical, and not the norm for our talented staff. I can't imagine what happened, but I am always happy to follow up with research on the situation. We like to be as transparent as possible in resolving the rare mishap, so don't hesitate to reach out with more information if you are curious. It does sound as if it was rectified rather speedily, but we do apologize for any interruption that it may have caused.

We thank you for the review, and sharing your experience. It means a lot, and it helps us grow... so that there truly will be a time that we have you back, and we follow through with a seamless experience. Cheers, be well, and we hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,
Michael H. | Online Concierge
