“Excellent spa experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012 via mobile

I visited the Allison Spa this past weekend and had a wonderful experience - the staff were all extremely pleasant and attentive, the spa was luxurious but comfortable at the same time - I felt right at home. The sauna and steam rooms were relaxing and the treatment was amazing! I had the mimosa massage - truly a great experience and you get a mimosa at the end to enjoy and relax! Unfortunately I did not stay at the hotel because i was staying with family but I will say the property was beautiful and i would make this my first choice as a place to stay on my next visit. Overall the Allison is a wonderful place to escape and relax in a beautiful setting!

Thank you for your review, and taking the time to share your experience. You prove that you don't need to stay here to truly experience all that the Allison has to offer. Often times we forget to mention that our wonderful spa is open to the public, where we have a delightful range of services and options - from the most spa savvy, to those brand new to spas. We always encourage people to come well before an appointment, as well, so they can take full advantage of all aspects of the spa... steam room, sauna, and more. We even have convincing options for those who prefer to wait in the JORY lounge or go wine tasting, as well. =)

I will make sure to pass along the kind words to the spa department. We love keeping up with these reviews - we not only learn much, but we get the added joy of sharing your experience. It means a lot, and we thank you!

Sincerely,

My husband and I stayed two nights at the Allison Inn at the tail end of our honeymoon in June, 2011. Our entire experience from start to finish was amazing. The individuals at check-in were very knowledgeable and gave us great tips on wineries and arranged a driver for us for one of our afternoons. We had read several reviews that the hotel was at an inconvenient location, but we disagree. It is slightly off the main road, but easy to find and a short drive to many tasting rooms.

We had purchased the romance package which included a $100 gift card to Jory and a bubble bath. Our meal at Jory was delicious and the server knew we had purchased that package and asked us when we wanted her to call and have the bath drawn for us. The view from our room was amazing. The room itself was very nice. The fireplace was a great benefit as it got chilly at night. We had a nice balcony and the room was very clean. The bathrobs in the room were one of my favorite things. The hotel had an arrangement with Lexus and we were able to check out a Lexus convertible for the day at no cost...that was my husband's favorite part (see photo)!

Since we were primarily in Newberg to enjoy the wineries, we only went to the spa once. We got a couples massage and it was amazing. The amenities at the spa were world class. They had several patios that you could sit outside and enjoy tea and the sun before and after your treatments.

By the time we left two short days later, the valet, the bellman, and the front desk folks knew our names. It was first class service from start to finish! My only regret is that we didn't spend more time at the Allison Inn. We have and will recommend the Allison Inn to anyone we know travelling to Oregon.

Room Tip: We stayed on the spa level and the view was amazing. We don't see the need to pay more for the...

Sometimes we will have a long, hard day at work, and just at that moment, we will happen upon a review such as yours and be reminded of what a pleasure it is to work this hard. It's an honor to be there for you and your new husband, and a joy to read your review. Happy approaching anniversary!

Your review is so helpful, and kind... we are truly indebted to you for taking the time to share your experience. We hate to make you regret anything, but if it's involved in us doing a fantastic job, we will simply make sure you spend more time with us in the future, exploring our Inn as much as the Willamette Valley wineries. =)

Thank you again, and we hope to see you soon!

We are locals and have been to the Allison for a spa/girlfriend overnight getaway, a birthday dinner, lunch and a spa day. I was so happy that a 5-star hotel had a finally arrived in Oregon. After visiting and loving the spas at the Montage and St. Regis in Southern California, where my sister lives, I am now able to take her to an elegant spa as well. My sister and I enjoyed an incredible evening of cocktails, and appeitizers on the patio outside the bar. Our every need attended to from the delicious dinner to the day spent at the pool and spa.
The food is divine, the staff is wonderful and sincere, the rooms are incredible and the spa is amazing. There is only thing (a big thing in a lot of people's opinions) lacking that would make it a perfect spa....adding a spa pool in the spa itself (which it currently does not have), or giving spa guests access to the pool/spa, near the spa itself, which is only available to overnight guests. On the spa day with girlfriends, we were not given access to the pool/spa....a big dissapointment to all four of us.
Each time I have been to the Allison, none or very few people use the pool/spa. I am not sure why it would be a problem to allow spa guests the change to enjoy a "complete" spa experience. Our cool, rainy Oregon season's lends itself to the spa experience of a long, hot soak My hopes are that the policy soon changes.....this could be a dangerous thing though, as I would be need an Allsion "frequent flyer" account!

Thank you so much for your review! We would love to focus completely on your kind and enthusiastic comments, but want to be respectful, and not ignore your concerns. You are correct about our policy in regards to accessing the pool or hot tub during a spa visit - currently, we are still keeping that area private for guests. It is a question we have had before, and I spoke with our AGM in regards to the logic. I think the below sums up our current policy quite well... knowing that we are always internally discussing this, and how we conduct business. For the time being, it is the following:

"Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us. You request is a somewhat common one and also one we have had many conversations about. Ultimately we have elected to preserve the exclusivity of the poolarea to our overnight hotel guests only. While I completely understand how it would enhance your visit to our spa, I hope you can also understand our desire to keep some features private. We have many areas that are available for use including the spa lounges (including the co-ed lounge), the steam and sauna rooms, and of course our living room and JORY restaurant.

Even though this answer is most likely disappointing, I hope you can stay overnight with us at some future time and I would ask that you reach out to me when the time allows for a stay. - Steve"

I can assure you it isn't a decision made lightly, and the beauty of social review sites like Tripadvisor is that we are held to account for our decisions, and learn and grow in a way that was not previously accessible. In reading this, we have started a dialogue about it again. It's still our policy, but know that you are reaching us, and we hear you loud and clear.

Thank you again, and I hope this finds you well!

Sincerely,
Michael | Online Concierge

We are local residents to the area and have known about this new hotel and spa since it was opened. We decided to spend a night there recently. Newberg alone is not impressive and the views from the hotel is nothing to be excited about, but the hotel itself is spectacular. The staff was amazing and the room could not really have been better. We had dinner at the hotel and breakfast the next day, both great experiences. The spa area was also fabulous. We highly recommend a stay here and plan to go again in the future.

Thank you so much for your review! We don't mind thinking of our property as spectacular, and appreciate the sentiment! We think the rolling hills of the Willamette Valley are lovely, but for those who differ in opinion, you point out a lovely fact.... the restaurant, the spa, the sheer comfort of it all.... it certainly gives people enough to do that they don't have worry about the outside world, one bit! We love reading these reviews that mention our staff... we are proud of our employees, and our team is a big family of local people who want to make The Allison a world class hotel. Reading a review like yours, it seems we are on our way. Thank you for sharing your experience, and we hope to see you again, soon! Cheers, and be well.

I/we spent a lot of money there between room charges, dinners, spa appointments and bar. We asked for a late checkout and could only get if paid for half day room charge. This, on a weekday only half full at best. Disappointing, to say the least. Otherwise, was truly divine.

Thank you for your review, and we greatly apologize for the inconvenience. Something we pride ourselves in, at the Allison, is that we will not tack on charges or nickel and dime our guests... it's part of the guest experience to be able to relax, not worry - and if something needs to get done, we get it done. Your situation was a rare misstep. We apologize, and I can assure you it won't happen again.

It's as simple as this: if we have the ability to allow a late check out, we will do so. Even if the check out request is quite late, we will do our best to accommodate you, when and if possible. At times, for extremely late check outs or busy days with many check ins, we will need to account for the impact on our operations. But you are correct that the day you visited we were not full. Our fledgling desk agent was still new at the property, and their previous work experience was learned in other types of luxury properties, and was only used to "the other way" of doing things - namely charging the guest whenever possible. We assure you that our "Oregon Hospitality" way of doing things has gotten through to all our new staff, and whenever we can avoid disrupting the guest experience, we will do so. Part of that is in training, and we will make sure to revisit or standards of procedure. This was our bungle, and we do apologize. Thank you for the review, and the high marks. It means a lot to be able to read, learn, and grow... and you are helping us with your words. Thank you!

Sincerely,

We got married at a property in Newberg and our wedding party ended up using more than 30 rooms at the Allison. We all thought that it was an amazing place to stay. Although not ostentatious or over-the-top fancy, the hotel provided us all a stunningly elegant, relaxing and well-appointed hotel experience. The service is amazing, attention to detail truly impressive, and the rooms, restaurant, spa and salon were all top-notch.

Our wedding guests who stayed here included families with small children, couples, older folk, singles ... everyone found the hotel to their liking.

The Allison offered us a good "wedding-block discount" and we thought that the cost was extremely reasonable, considering the high quality.

Kudos to the Allison!

Room Tip: We liked the rooms that overlooked the vineyards (but not the road) best, but there are really no &q...

Thank you so much! We are always willing and capable to host all sorts of groups - from business meetings, to weddings, association or charity events, and even those special girl's weekend, date nights, or long term romantic escapes. The fact is, the design and build of this hotel is such that everyone can have their own experience, and define their own stay, without it imposing on anyone else's plans or time staying with us. It's an important aspect to our relaxed luxury and earnest hospitality.... the ability to escape, and "be where you are", no matter what kind of guest you are.

Your words were so kind, and they will be so helpful to many people in the future. We cannot thank you enough for taking the time to share your thoughts, as well as relating what a value we are! We're thrilled you understand, and chose to share your review with others.

Thank you, and we hope this finds you well.

Juat returned from a wonderful 4 night stay, In a top floor suite. We have been fortunate to have stayed at many fine hotels over the years but the Allison ranks among the top. And, as with all the places we remember fondly, it starts with the people. The staff here are among the finest; everyone we met treated us as truly welcomed guests. Most remembered our name after meeting us once. Many went out of their way to make this a special visit. But I must complement two: Allison, our concierge ( yes, Allison at the Allison) who reserved all our dinners and planned our daily wine tasting adventures, including private tastings, and had outstanding recommendations for lunch. She also took care of shipping our wine home; one page form, painless. She is a gem. Will, at the front desk was a standout as well giving us much good advice, and lots of cheer. The room was exquisite, fireplace, comfortable furniture, two decks, large bath, tasteful original art. I would only add a duvet would have been welcomed. We dined at Jory twice for breakfast, and once for dinner. Service ar breakfast was leisurely. Our dinner followed on the heels of a too large late lunch, so we scaled back and ordered from the vegetarian menu. The mushroom raviolis were a standout. The exercise room is well equipped with some new machines using pulleys. Once we got the hang of it, these gizmos gave us a good workout. The spa services were the best, and a special thanks to Nancy for a terrific mans facial ( if you have not had one guys, you are missing something).

The Allison is a wonderful place, elegantly designed, warm, and staffed by people who genuinely care for their guests. Don't think about staying anywhere else when you visit the Willamette Valley.

I will, of course, be sure to tell both Allison & Will about your comments. But thank you for mentioning the staff overall. We view it as welcoming friends or family into our home, which makes someone much more than just a hotel guest. There is a rare pride in our employees, who understand it's not just a job, but that we are all part of creating life changing experiences. Once you stop thinking as an hourly employee, and become an integral part of building a lasting and positive impression on every person that passes through our hotel, it takes the property to another level. We're thrilled to be able to offer this experience so far - and we know we are bringing "Oregon Hospitality" to the world. With reviews like yours, it will happen all the more quickly.

And, sir, you have convinced me to finally get a facial. Thank you. =)

Cheers to you and yours, and thank you again. Your positive words will have a lasting impact on our inn. Be well!
