“Three Night Mountain Home Rental Family Reunion at Camp Yale”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We rented a two bedroom two bath Mountain Home from photos Belknap Hot Springs, Lodge & Gardens had on their web site. As this stay was planned for the week of spring break, we made the reservation in early December 2012 for a three night stay.

We chose the Mountain Homes because we were planning a reunion with our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter who were coming to visit us from Calgary, Alberta. Our son-in-law created and runs an upscale English Style Pub "The Tudor Rose" in Calgary. He is also the Pub's executive chef. Both he and our daughter are competent and gifted chefs, so finding a vacation rental with a full kitchen and dining area were essential.

The Belknap websites sparse photo's of the house did not do the property justice. The Mountain Home (#13) was beautiful, both inside and out. All of the mountain homes were built in close proximity to each other and the landscaping was non-existent. The views from the house and grounds near the entrance at Camp Yale with a large naturalized pond and fountain seemed to compensate for this lack of detail/completion.

Our daughter and son-in law took the double queen room and we set up the roll-away for our granddaughter (8) in the living room. One of the queen bed frames had previous damage, so i don't think it could have been utilized even if they had chosen to have used it for their daughter.

After reading reviews of lack of adequate equipment and supplies at the cabins at the Lodge cabins, I over packed every conceivable kitchen and dining item i thought we might need. As i am a chef, the quality of equipment and cookware i brought from home exceeded what was supplied, but I believe that any family would have found everything needed at the mountain home.

Realize that the lodge's management does not view rental of the Homes as a hotel, so only six sets of towels and one set of bed linens per bed were provided. Whether you rent the house at $250 per night for 2 nights (Minimum) or for a month. you will be expected to launder and maintain housekeeping for your stay.

The most bizarre items in the mountain home were the commercial restroom locking toilet paper dispensers. I returned to the lodge to request replacement rolls and was rudely informed that the did not give TP to guests and that a member of the house keeping staff would go to the rental to fill the dispenser.

The grounds at the gardens were good for walking in and getting light exercise, but as it was late winter in the mountains so no flowers or bushes in bloom.

The two hot spring fed pools were delightful and the pool/lodge facilities were satisfactory. The lodge was beautifully appointed but as other reviewers had written the front desk staff were to be avoided as much as was humanly possible. Our son-in-law needed some salt and went to the lodge store when he brought it to the counter with his (US) debit card he was informed that he would need to make a minimum $10 purchase. He gathered some other items and brought them to the front desk clerk. When the order was printed up he was charged an additional $3.95 to use the debit card.

Although the grounds and hot spring pools and the Mountain Home itself was up to the standards of other vacation rentals we have stayed in (Forest Grove, Bend, Sunriver and Ashland, OR and Port Townsend, WA), The overall cost/value and customer service aspects of Belknap and Camp Yale Mountain Homes lead us believe we will not be making a return visit.

Room Tip: This was a Mountain Home vacation rental at Camp Yale located 2 miles from the Belknap Lodge facilit...

Have been going there for many years...love, love love it! Friendly staff, scenery, gardens and of course the pools, make this the perfect getaway! We also love that we only have to drive a couple of hours from our home to get there! We are always surprised that everyone doesn't already know about this place...but we also love the solitude and relaxation! Did i mention the hot springs pools? ...Amazing! What a way to rejuvenate! It is our own lovely retreat to get away from it all! I

I definitely don't plan on going back. Staff are extremely rude. The younger staff member (I believe she is the manager) literally yelled at guests. I have never witnessed or experienced such behavior. I was speechless, couldn't believe she got away with treating guests the way she did. The water in the pools had a layer of dirt (dead skin, hair, etc) floating...you could hardly sit in the pool. The bathrooms in the upper pool were in very poor shape and dirty - much needed updating.

We were there in December and the service was bad. We stayed two nights and they were very stingy with the pool towels, not allowing us to trade in the pool towel for a clean one until we had been there for 24 hours. One older lady at the desk was pleasant enough, but the younger woman was rude. When we asked questions, she practically rolled her eyes when she answered. The room was too hot and the thermostat did not appear to work. Breakfast was cleared out exactly on time (don't be a minute late) and there wasn't enough coffee for everyone and food was in short supply. The lodge itself is really nice, great location and the pool is wonderful. We had a lot of fun snowshoeing and exploring the area. We will go back in the summer to check out the gardens, which were neat even in the winter covered in snow.

My daughter brought me here for my birthday....I asked if you had towels for sale that said Belknap on them....She said they did but she would have to go look for them....she said they were like $25 each and did i still want one....I said yes...She never looked and never checked back with me...She seemed irritated that we wanted information about the place since it was our first time....we were in the water maybe 30 minutes when a man came in and undressed by the water and got in waring a t-shirt and boxers....he proceended to stalk both of us in the pool and creeped us out so bad we had to leave....he acked like it was a bath and a pickup place....no one was watching the pool area and the front desk girl was too bizzy flirting with some guy in the lobby...which is why she never looked for the towel i wanted to buy....This is such a neat place...sad that your employee makes is so non-inviting! And the construction around the pool that gave the guests only one side to walk on and no where to sit outside the water....very sad that was my memory for my birthday....january 16, 2013 was the day we went....sad sad sad

the last 2 times we went there we were treated very rudely by the staff. This time we stayed down the road at Harbicks hotel (way better customer service) our friends were staying in the campground at Belknap, we thought we would stop by their campground and surprise them and say hi, we pulled in their campground to find they werent there, when the so called manager girl asked us what we were doing there and told us we had to leave right away and could not visit our friends at 3 in the afternoon. she then lied to us and told us we had to buy a 25$ ticket to a party that was to be in the campground. I later found out the party was in the lodge and there was no one there and we didnt need to buy a ticket to be in the campground. I dont know why the so called manager would play stupid games and lie to us like this, but we get treated rudely everytime we visit there.
The other time we were treated like crap was when we camped in the campground, we had stayed the first night and decided to stay another night and went down to the lodge to see if they had an opening or not. they told us the only one they had had a backhoe stuck in the driveway as it was under construction. if we wanted this one we could use it as a walk in campground and would have to carry all our gear in through another campground. but, instead of giving us the walk in campground rate, that we would have to pay the full drive in campsite fee. so we payed the full price for the campsite that had no driveway and the next morning during our breakfast, the girl comes by and says " you know its 11:15 and checkout is at 11 and wanted us to pay for another night, in a campsite that they cant even rent because it has no driveway. We couldnt beleive it.
its too bad because they used to have decent customer service but now they only care about getting their money.
they charge top dollar for the campsites and they have one bathroom/shower for all the campsites that is very run down and needs updating badly.
there are way better place to stay than this, I have talked to alot of people about belknap and have heard a long list of bad stories about the staff and treating people badly.

This property has a misleading website. The terms and conditions say one thing, but the people at the desk say something else. Be sure you have a clear understanding of what you are getting for what you are paying. We were very disappointed.
