“Nice little hotel in a cute town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2011

We stayed here for 3 days and we really liked the place. It was a little small for 4 people but the beds were comfortable and the hotel is well situated for lots of things in and around the Oregon Coast. There is a good selection of DVDs in reception to watch on the evenings. The bathroom was a little small and not really suitable for 4 people staying any longer. The location of the hotel is only a block up from a lovely quiet beach and the town of manzanita is a real treasure, cute, unique and individual. We preferred it here to our stay in Newport further down the coast, simply for it's size and for the fact that it was less crowded and prettier. i would recommend it to others and would stay there again.

I visited the Spindrift Inn with family in late July. It was pretty pricy but less than many of the other Manzanita Hotels. I also chose it because I could book it through Expedia for a single night where the other properties had a two night minimum.

The hotel is very near Manzanita beach, easy walking distance. There are cute little restaurants and shops all around it. We liked its location and it was easy to find.

We booked a room for 4 with two beds. The room was clean and quiet. The Inn provides a large library of movies which you can check out for free. We didn't have time to do this but it was a nice touch. The Inn also has an inner courtyard with places to sit and relax which are nice.

The hotel was a nice place to spend a night.

Room Tip: If you are looking for a room for a single night on the Oregon coast, try booking with Expedia.

After spending a lot of time trying to decide on where to stay on the northern coast, the Spindrift Inn was our choice. It is right in the middle of Manzanita a block from the beach. The woman checking us in was friendly and helpful. We were booked for a queen room but were upgraded to a suite with two queens, one in each room.

We liked the room was decorated like a shore home. It was easy to tell we were staying on the coast. Although the motel is older, it is well maintained and we had no real complaints. The only minor issue I saw was the refrigerator being a little dirty on the inside. Sleeping was quiet the night we stayed. The internet was efficient and there is a flat screen TV in the room (although no HD channels).

Our host recommended the Sand Drift Inn across the street for a bite to eat. We enjoyed this pub for some local flare, along with good food and drink. The best part is they are located right across the street.

I recommend the Spindrift if not sure of where to stay in this area. I just don't understand why tripadvisor has this listed under B & B's when they don't serve breakfast.

This tiny town is so charming. It has everything - good restaurants, a lovely farmers market on Fridays and a fun bar across from the Inn, where we danced the night away. There's a great breakfast place called Wanda's one town away.

The Inn was immaculate and had everything we needed. It was a great value. The woman at reception was more than helpful. I needed a Dr. because of ear infection and she found one and followed up with concern about my condition. I didn't get e-mail replies re; my reservation, but all was correct and fine.

The beach - a block away was beautiful and fun.

If you pass through Astoria, stop at Astoria cofeehouse and bistro - cool decor - great service and amazing food. We stopped on our way to Manzanita and had to return on our way back - that good. Plus, very cool shops in Astoria too.

The set up is a single storey of rooms built around a cute and cool little inner courtyard garden, which is a lovely unexpected touch. We had a suite, which had a sitting area and kitchen, with a separate bedroom, all decorated very pleasantly in seaside-feeling greens and blues and creams. Everything was very clean and comfortable, although we did feel the lack of blackout curtains on the bedroom window a bit as the sun comes shining through from very early in the morning. The front of the inn is on the main street of this very pretty town, only about half a block away from the sea. It was very quiet and peaceful, and the setting is glorious. There looked to be some interesting shops and restaurants in town, although nearly everything bar the restaurant next to the inn and the pub across the road was closed while we were there, which meant there wasn’t much choice for dinner if you didn’t want to drive (although in fairness we were quite late arriving). The inn has a couple of nice touches, like a DVD library in reception to use while you’re there. We will, however, forever remember the Spindrift for the way Corinne, the lady on reception, averted a near disaster for us! We were in the States for a wedding and were almost in Portland when we realised that we had left my husband’s tux hanging in the wardrobe at Manzanita. However, thanks to Corinne going out of her way to sort something out with UPS for us, everything worked out fine and we didn’t have to face a 300 mile round trip back to Manzanita and back again in time for the wedding dinner that night (or buying another tux!), for which we will be eternally grateful.

We stayed at Spindrift Inn for two nights and overall I would say this accomodation is fine given the location is 1 block away from a stunning beach. Recent upgrades are evident in the new TV's, fresh paint and bathroom decor (fluffly towels!) . The inner courtyard garden and window boxes/baskets create an inviting appearance. I have two issues which I think if the Inn addresses will make a great improvement: bed linens need to be replaced, comforters looked old and I'm sorry to say the pillows were stained and smelly. The shower was a bit of a shock because when showering I could hear the shower in the next unit starting up and suddenly there was no hot water....that certainly woke me up!
I think it's important to note that this is an older accommodation ( I believe I read it was built in the '40's) so it will definitely retain an older feeling to it - but that's part of the charm!

Thanks for review, recognizing our upgrades and fluffy towels (there's nothing like a refreshing shower and a fluffy absorbent towel). And we're pleased you enjoyed the flower boxes, and inner garden, only for guests.

Thank you for the suggestions on upgrading linens. To let you know, we had already ordered, and have now replaced the older quilts, improved our washing equipment and are bringing in new soft twill-striped sheets and cases.

The shower, only in your room, has been an interesting challenge for our local plumber, as there's plenty of hot water in the system. We're getting a second opinion, so that room can deliver the same consistent hot water as the rest. There are challenges and joys in maintaining an older rural inn ... on balance, mostly joys.

And guests like you make it all worthwhile.
Cheers, Stewart

Made the mistake of booking thru a discount source, instead of thru the hotel. Felt as tho we paid for that in the room we were given. Smelled very musty and doggy. Noticed room next door as well as those advertised were so much nicer. Front desk attendantwas very nice and helpful regardless. Room was not very clean, esp when I found a clump of dog or cat fur in my towel and the source of major smell being a pillow. Loved Manzanita, would definitely stay in better place, whether upgrade here but rather on beach.

Thanks for telling us about this, online.
Let me assure you, and all guests, of three things. First, rooms are automatically selected by the computer booking services, based on their size and features, we do not assign different rooms for discount source bookings; it's not possible. Second, we treat all rooms and guests equally. Third, you can always call us direct, or book rooms on our Spindrift Inn website.
The situation with your linens is not acceptable, regardless of room. We are meeting with our housekeepers today to review their process for linens, and verify quality assurance.
If you ever have any concerns about a room, or have a special request, please bring them to our attention - so we can address them.
Sincerely,
Corinna Otto
Innkeeper
