“Ok.......but could have been better.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Just spent the last two days at Surftides. It was a Groupon deal and while the price was right, the room was not the best. Room 301, which was as far South as one could be put. The room was clean and the view was awesome. The room needs some updating and I believe their close to doing that. Things were pretty well worn and the carpet had a distinct odor. Not a bad odor but a distinct odor. Bathroom and mini kitchen fixtures were on back words, cold left, hot right and hot water took forever to get. The biggest problem to me was that the wifi was pretty non existent. It was so spotty that it was useless. They need additional extenders to strengthen signal. The WWW is not going away and the sooner motels figure this out the more people they will see come back to stay. Also, the TV was small and old with lousy reception. Other than that we enjoyed our stay. Check in was fine and personnel were friendly. They seem to be well managed and as soon as they update in areas then I will give them five stars. There restaurant was excellant. The food was very good, service was good and the prices were reasonable. We ate there three times as was very close and enjoyed every visit. I will stay there again but would ask for a room closer to main lobby.

Room Tip: Don't ask for a room on the south end unless it has been renovated. I really don't know much...

“Good Value, Excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Loved the beautiful beach front view and access to the beach. Pet friendly and staff was very pleasant and accommodating. Really enjoyed spending time in the lovely courtyard with evening gas firepits.

“Good value for the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

I visited this hotel, the weekend of Dec 28-30 usng a Groupon. The room(double queen, oceanfront) we got was on the the top floor (4th floor) of the main building. As other reviewers noted that had gotten non renovated rooms, yes, there was some dated furniture pieces with showing wear and some damage. The walls corners did show wear and decor was dated. The carpet did have some type of smell, but not strong enough to make us change rooms. The edges and corners of the room could have been vacuumed better as we noted there was an old piece of popcorn and some small pieces of trash underneath the bedskirts from previous occupants. Otherwise the beds were clean and well made up and the sink area and bathroom were both clean. We did have some problems with the TV (just a older tube type TV) and getting the DVD player to work, but each time we called the front desk for help, a maintenance man was at our door with in 2-5 minutes tops.

Here's where Surftides shines-their customer service and the 'little' things. Each time I called the front desk they were courteous, friendly and very helpful. The room is ocean front (as in literally on the beach) where as other hotel/motel properties are higher up on the bluff. We spend some time seeing a full moon rising above the beach and seeing the surf come in closer than most places we've stayed on the northwest coast. Surftides also runs a small contest every day where they hide a few wooden Surftides mermaid cutouts somewhere on the property. Anyone who finds one can win a discount to use at the Mist Restaurant (which is operated by Surftides), a free T-shirt with the mermaid logo or a discount on a future stay. The firepits outside that are lit every night are a nice addition and allow visitors to roast smores and just 'gather around'. The lobby has a nice fireplace and seating that you can sit and play board games and cookies are provided every night. Also, there's free fresh coffee in the lobby every a.m. Also, we were able to access the wi-fi (no charge), sometimes it was slow but most of the time we had no problem with it. I also thought the food at the Mist Restaurant was very good. We ate there for a dinner and a breakfast - on Sunday there's a small buffet breakfast and had a nice variety of food. Waiters were alert and provided excellent service.

There was a pool and sauna in a separate building but we did not get a chance to try it.

Normally, I would not give a place 3 stars with the kind of cleanliness issues and worn dated furniture, but I could tell that this place was undergoing renovation (as other reviewers had noted). We also couldn't complain too much because our Groupon made our stay a good deal.

We will probably return again and ask for a renovated room.

Room Tip: Get a renovated room

“Do not waste your money!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

Dirty, broken refrigerator door, large crack in middle of bathroom floor, gas fireplace barely had a flame and had a thick layer of "dirt and dust" on holes where gas escapes. Loud plumbing. Poor quality towels and linens. Need to have a major renovation! Location is the only good thing I can say was excellent. Way too expensive for what you get or don't get.

Room Tip: Don't go to Surftides - find a different hotel.

Thank you for you review. Did not like reading your review at all, just terrible.

But it also why we are in the middle of renovating the rooms, since we started renovating we dropped our price on the older rooms significantly.

On our website the new rooms are marked as to what has been renovated and what has not been renovated.

We just started the renovation of anther 22 rooms, should be done with these in a month.

I am taken back by the mention of the linens as we use very high quality linens in all the rooms, old and new. And we are very strict about keeping them on a rotating par.

In either case we have been and continue to make the changes..

“Three strikes you're out.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

I judge a place on its cleanliness, comfort of the bed, customer service, shower, and beach access. This place has great access to the beach, and we have always had good customer service. I don't even mind the dated, worn furniture. We have stayed here 3 times. The first was great, second time the fireplace in our room didn't work. This last time our room was dirty. There was hair on the counter, and table. The soap dish was dirty from the last users, and when we sat down at the table in our room, there was a dirty fork on the floor. It was quite cold in the room and we turned up the thermostat, but the room never heated up. The fireplace worked but was only for show it didn't put any heat in the room. The front desk called to see how things were and we let them know what we had found. They said they would give us coupons to eat in the restaurant. They brought by two vouchers for 15% off our meal and said a maintenance man would be by. We waited 30 minutes and still no maintenenance man. When we called the front desk she was surprized the maintenance man hadn't come by, she was very polite and offered us another room, but by this time I was done. We checked out and went to another hotel.
